Title: Step
Post by: sedelange on August 24, 2018, 12:21:11 am
What causes step not to retract?  Drove on toll road and I clipped the little plastic vertical markers at the toll booth.  Didn't think I was that close.  When I arrived home and opened door the step was missing.  I can only assume the step didn't retract.

Steve,

The magnetic switch on the door frame is where the signal to open/close comes from. That signal is changed to an air pressure through the shuttle valve/ Norgen valve that is located on the back of the step  well box. Here is a link to a thread with pics. as to where the Noregen valve is generally located.  Front step will not come down (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=25744.msg204567#msg204567)    Even though this is talking about the step not coming down the pics should help out in locating some of the parts you are looking for.

Might want to check the Exhaust on the valve also.. mine has seemed to slown the exhaust out and is very slow in retracting.. simple adjustment should fix mine..If the air doesnt get out fast enough it will seem like its not working

Steve, does your step look like this 2005?  It may be electric. Is the whole step gone or just the end?  Pictures might help. I have only seen a couple of the 2005s, like the way step looks but didn't look much closer.

The screen door magnetic switch controls our electric Xtreme step conversion,  if it is/was electric could be the mag switch, wiring or a fuse.

My Kwikee electric step conversion installed by Xtreme stopped working on the Alaska Motorcade.  Gravel bound up the mechanism and broke the motor shaft.  A new motor kit solved the problem.

My step is pneumatic.  Apparently the magnetic switch is defective. Now to get it replaced.
