Title: water fill problem on '94 U225
Post by: Johnnie & Susan Laird on August 24, 2018, 04:55:01 pm
I've tried to find this on the search deal with no luck.
Will only fill at a very small stream - takes about 4 hours to fill.
Very small stream from interior while on city water.
**Every thing is good while on water pump**
This is a new situation.
The check valve in the inlet is free.
Has any one encountered this and what was the fix.
The plumbing in the box between driver and passenger has never been messed with.
Kinda hated to cut that stuff loose to back flush if I didn't have to.
(PS - how do you get the check valve out of the filler inlet
Thanks in advance.............

You say: "The plumbing in the box between driver and passenger has never been messed with."

Are you cycling the ball valve (fill valve) to the "fill position"?

If you move it to the fill position with the water pump still on, the pump will run full time and rapidly (close to zero pressure, as it is "recirculating".  Does that happen?

Yes Brett, valve(s) are in correct position.  Have owned this coach several years.
I do have brain lapses quite often, but this situation is something else.
Like I said this is a 'new' situation.
I always flush the water hose before I hook it to the filler and the check valve is working .
Don't know what else is in the system that can cause a blockage ?
Thanks Brett...........

Is your fill (ball) valve original to the coach?  It is possible (though not very likely) for a ball valve to fail internally.  If the shaft breaks inside the valve, or the ball comes loose from the shaft, then the handle will turn without corresponding movement of the ball.

I know - not bloody likely...but I have seen it happen when I worked in the oilfield.

It happened in my sticks and bricks house this year don't count a broken ball valve out.

The first time I tried to fill the tank on ours I discovered after a while that NO water was getting through. I checked and rechecked the valves thinking that I wasn't doing something correctly.  I decided to replace the hose connector/check valve and discovered a pressure regulator in the vertical water line (on our U240, this is in the compartment just forward of the fill).  It was stuck closed.  I removed the regulator and it filled just fine.

It sounds to me like the check valve at the water fill may have gone partially into the fill valve and is restricting the water flow as he said that also has very little water to the faucets when he is using water with the hose, but good flow with the water pump

Thanks Chuck, but......when you close the ball valve for a few seconds and then back open, you can hear the pressure release. It will eventually fill the tank but takes about 4 hours.

Thanks Dave, that's one of the things I'm thinking.  I don't know how that check valve is built.  It does stay closed when you take the city water hose off.  I guess the next step is to tear into it.  Don't know where the water line goes between the two compartments.

I usually tear something up ( break it ) and then ........oh yeah, that's how that work......didn't know it was that simple...... :-[ .

Thanks Guys...........~JL~

Here is what the water line looks like on the other side of the wall on our U240, maybe your 225 is similar.

It was the anti-siphon valve at the shore water connection that failed on ours, showed the same symptoms as described. Easy access behind the fill in the next compartment forward.

Thank you Dave & Mike.
That makes me feel a little better.
It's that fear of the unknown that's greater than in the past.
I'll put this project on 'the list'......... :)
Thanks Again............~JL~
