Title: Transmission cooler
Post by: Chris m lang on September 03, 2018, 09:40:06 pm
I am looking for thoughts or guidance on replacing transmission cooler.  I am going to replace radiator and was wandering what other coach owners had done with transmission cooler.  Is there a life span on them?
Any input would be appreciated.
Chris

If the transmission cooler fails coolant can get into the transmission.  That is very much not good for the transmission.

What is wrong with what is called a "desert cooler" with an electric fan from O'reillys?
I have one on our '89 and it is independent of the radiator. AND-- I believe it costs less than $200 from O'reilly's

It will not cool a retarder equipped transmission.

It looks like the info you need has been posted.  If you have any questions, let me know.  My old cooler had heavy rust on the shell, but was functional.  I replaced it to be on the safe side while I had everything else apart and it was accessible.  I also replaced all the hoses, which was a significant cost, but probably not necessary.  I didn't want to have to revisit the issue later.
I saved a "coach buck" ($1000) by ordering directly from Rocor.

Since you have time to look, you could watch eBay to see if one comes up.  There is a link to the Rocore catalog in Sven's thread that shows the specs for various coolers.  I replaced my original rusty unit with a 5-7024B that I found on eBay last winter for $285.  It took some modifying to make it fit on the U240.
I contacted Cindi M @Rocore and found out that the replacement for my 3-1259B was a 5-7009A.  $1,487+shipping.
