Kenny Lemon has a question about Quartzsite January 2019

In year's past, our Quartzsite gathering was hosted by Kenny & Ann Lemon, where Kenny would pull a trailer behind his Foretravel with tent, tables, chair, cook pots, burner and his signature canoe paddle to stir the pots.

Kenny loved cooking meals for all to enjoy, with a big pot of Desert Stew being a showcase dinner.

In recent years, without Ann, Kenny would drive up in his car on a January day from Yuma where he stays with Doug & Sandi Gillespie, and meet and share with everyone.

For this upcoming January, Kenny is thinking about bringing a couple of his large pots from Denver, a burner, meat and stuff to cook his huge pot of Desert Stew for the Quartzsite Gathering.

Kenny would probably only bring the big stuff down in his car from Denver if there would be a consensus of a date and time in the Foretravel Gathering Area for him to share with everyone.

Since Kenny only knows how to cook for dozens, he would like to know how many might be interested and how to coordinate with someone at the Gathering?

We had the pleasure of meeting Kenny a couple of years ago at Q- very fine man.

We are planning on coming to Q for the rally in January and would love to participate in any way we can.  As you know we are pretty loose with our planning but will be there during the big Tent show for sure.  Keep us informed about dates and we will plan accordingly.

Had the pleasure of meeting Kenny last year. We too are planning on being at Q for the Big Tent show. Just not sure on exactly which days but probably the whole week. I'd be willing to pitch in labor (many hands makes for light work!) and grocery money.

see ya

We should be there around the first of Jan, as long as nothing gets in the fan.  Be glad to help, I have a large 3 burner cook stove, and a pair of helping hands. We can also help with paper and such supplies needed. Just let us know.

there was some discussion about fire wood the other day. for the last few years
foxworth-galbraith lumber in yuma has stacked pieces of wood from their truss
making operation. they are anywhere from a few inches to a few feet of kiln dried
2x4 and 2x6 stacked about 4 feet high.  it is on a pallet and wrapped in plastic.
they will load it on your pick-up, and it would be plenty of wood for Q.
depending on the year, i have seen these pallets from $25. to $45.
they are located just off the south frontage road behind big o tire, in the foothills.

Yvonne & I are in.. We have not met Kenny, but, look forward to it. In the past, in other groups, we have done dinners for groups; and we are willing to do an evening in Q. We will be there on 17 or 18 Jan; we will be there at least until 24 Jan; longer if possible. Yvonne is already thinking shredded beef tacos, rice and beans for a group of what? 30-40 people? Can do easy; and happy to do so.

We are planning Q for the 20th.  Maybe sooner. But happy to help when we get there.

The Barrett Jackson event at Phoenix WestWorld runs through the 20th and we want to catch some part of it. Doubt we buy anything but their events are sure entertaining.

As always our plans are cast in jello and usually a moving target 🤪

We plan on being there but not sure of when or how long.  Karen is getting a knee upgrade in December and will be well on the mend by that time, but we will have to wait and see...............  The good news is that we are having it done and staying in Yuma so not far if she is up to it.  She says we are going, she is determined.                    ^.^d

Is there a generator area vs a solar/no-generator area?

I ask because if it doesn't warmup, I will be running my Generator for heat.

No, just ask before you park next to anyone. let them know you might run it.. as long as there windows ar closed and your not next to the window.. shouldnt be a problem with noise .. I parked about 50' away from the nearest guy and ran my genny all weekend last year.. no problem.

For new folks what is the informal parking etiquette?
When you get there, it will be obvious where you can drive and park, and where you can't.  Most of the ground is totally dry barren hard packed gravel/caliche that is suitable for safe RV driving and parking.  If a parking spot is not obviously already occupied or reserved, then it is fair game.  Possession is 9/10ths...  Any place you see any vegetation growing should be avoided, because it can conceal very loose sandy soil, and it is also where the water runs when it rains (see "desert dry wash").  Watch out for old fire pits, which may be encountered anywhere!  Campers often burn wood pallets, and the tire killer nails are left behind when the fire burns down.

As to gen/no gen...no, there aren't any "designated areas".  If you think you'll be running your generator on a regular basis, be a nice guy and don't park right next to your neighbor's bedroom window.  There is LOTS of space at Q - plenty of room to spread out so everyone will be happy.

We are all wondering if Kenny is still planning on coming and what day. As far as I've seen, the only day people want to stay away from is fish Friday.

I talked to Ken Lemon today. He is in Yuma. Kenny told me, not hearing from anyone, he did not bring his big pots from Colorado this year. Hope he makes a visit, but I don't think he will be cooking. Maybe if a group coordinates with Kenny, he could bring his pots for next year? Or the group could get together this year for a pot luck and invite Kenny ahead of time.
