Title: Floppy Dash Vents
Post by: stump on September 21, 2018, 03:03:17 pm
So the vents on your Grand Villa dash just spin round and round, won't stay put, just plain aggravating! You have tried making a shim to hopefully hold it in place but usually that is short lived.
Here is how to fix them. Without breaking the bank, Without buying new ones.
First remove the 4 screws that hold it to the dash. Gently pull vent assembly out of dash. Not too far you do not have to disconnect the duct.
On each side you will see the pivot pins. Using a suitable tool gently push in on the pins and slip the louvered piece out.
Now take a heat gun and warm the pins so you can bend the plastic out. Do each side.
Note: it does Not take much heat!!
After it cools reinsert it into the duct until pins snap into place. Insert duct back into dash and reinstall screws. Waah Laah!!!! Now your vents will stay put! ^.^d

When I was an Acura Master Technician and had this problem we put a small/tight "O" ring on the pin. We usually used a pocket screwdriver to pry between the vent and its housing on one side. If still too loose, put 1 on the other side.

That is a good idea! Easier than what I did for sure

Without the rubber o-rings on the AC louvers up on the ceiling on our '89 the louvers just flop around also.
