Heading down to JC Refrigeration for a rebuild in October. In talking with JR about the door gaskets, he says he can repair minor issues with them. Has anyone had him repair any of them? Just don't want to go to the expense for a new cooling unit if the door gaskets can't be repaired.
Why not just replace the gasket? Check with a dollar bill. If it slides easily at any point around the perimeter, it's time.
Bruce, give Leon a call................he's also in Shipshewana and may have a gasket.

Ok has anyone successfully replaced the door gaskets? I have heard bad stories about not being able to get them to stay in place.
I could not get them to stay on after many tries, FOT could not get them to stay on. FOT did install residential refrigerator. I am happy.

We do A LOt of boondocking, so currently a residential fridge is not going to work for us. I know folks with residential fringes boondock but even with solar I hear 2-3 hours a day gen time. Just don't want to hear it run that long, negates the whole point of solar.
I understand....The old gasket/seal is sandwiched between the inner and outer door and is cut away with a razor blade. The new gasket/seal is then adhered with a glue(supplied) that did not work. Then I tried many 2 sided tapes and adhesives. The refrigerator did not keep things cold anyway so hello David Flannigan and out with the old and ind with the new. I feel for you and wish you the best on this issue.
If anyone is wondering, I did take the door off and lay it horizontally, and cleaned properly. The plastic is like teflon nothing seems to stick to it.

You may want to consider a door replacement. If i recall 140 or so. Run a check on parts.
I have an Ndr 1282/92 haven't seen any doors that cheap. Do you have a source?
I have a set of 1492 door with wood face I removed.. when we replaced the fridge
Bruce I have the 8 and will look tomorrow. I think it was on the Norcold guys website but will check.
Bruce here is the site and pricing Norcold Refrigerator Doors for N811, N821, N841, NX841, NXA841 - Norcold Parts (http://thenorcoldguy.com/norcold-n8xx-refrigerator-doors/)
I replace my freezer door gasket with no issues.
Bruce, which system are you installing? The 12v compressor or the 110? Getting close to ordering ours.
Thanks for the web site, but I've got s Dometic. Any way I'm going back with gas.
Amos looks like that's what going to have to happen.
Ooops, mine was a Dometic also...sorry

Bruce- had a new Amish cooling unit put in last year around Labor Day- working great. JR does good work- I'm sure you will be pleased. ^.^d
We just missed you. We were there Monday to have a ground wire fixed on our ARP. Our cooling unit is working well.
Had JR at JC Refrigeration replace the cooling unit on our Dometic NDR1282. Parked at the Wally Mart in Sturgis MI to make sure all is good. Good service, good folks. What does the gallery think about the additional 3 year parts only warranty for 125 bucks? Pictures of the old unit.
Neighbor has one, 4 years old. No issue. I have seen rebuilt units go bad. Is it new, or rebuilt?
I paid for the extended coverage. I had my unit installed in October of last year then put the coach in storage until January. We traveled to Florida for a two week stay. Freezer was fine, fridge was at 50. I called JR. He worked with me and could not fix it remotely.
He Fedexed a new cooling unit to a tech that use to work for him in Shipshewana now working in the Tampa area where we were. The tech arrived at 5:00PM and replaced the unit, finishing up at 2:00AM. JR felt terrible. He said it doesn't happen often but thought the unit was defective from the start.
There were no charges. I'm a fan. Freezer is solid at 0, fridge is 35-38. I've learned it's best to make sure everything that I can is already cold before I put it in the fridge. Otherwise the temp rises in the fridge.
I have replaced three cooling units over the years using JR's units and had no problems with any while I owned them.
The one I have now is 2 years old this month with no insurance on it or the others. Great product with a three year hassle-free warranty.
I vote no on the "parts only" insurance .
Chris, all new unit.
Man, it's your call. Cheap insurance I guess. With that fancy jeep, you got bucks...LOL
I did not get the extra 3 year insurance plan. My rationale is that if JR is so confident in his product that he will insure it so inexpensive for an additional 3 years, it must be a great product. Insurance is a risk and I choose to take the risk on Jr's side betting the unit will not fail. Will there be some failures? Sure, but the odds are against it otherwise the insurance would be much more or non- existence. This is my opinion...................... ^.^d
