Title: 1997 Norcold propane / electric fridge clicking noise
Post by: Carl Cox on October 01, 2018, 02:55:37 pm
Our Norcold single door fridge in our 1997 U270 36' has recently started clicking randomly while operating on 120v mode while plugged into 50 amp shore power.  Its working fine and cooling on 120v but we are reluctant to experiment with it until we have a better idea of what is causing the clicking (sounds right behind the fridge and you can hear it outside).  Any advice appreciated.....is there any fire risk (for now we are only running it on 120v and no trips are planned).  Maybe it needs a new controller circuit board or ? but hopefully not a new fridge (!).

We are traveling overseas for a month and will soon turn the fridge off...maybe this will give it a rest...however a reboot did not fix it...it's clicking again periodically.

Maybe the igniter trying to fire up?  Are you sure the fridge is in AC power mode when it happens, even though you are plugged in?  Could be the control board intermittently thinks you're not plugged in and switches to propane mode.

Need to try to turn it on gas and see what happens. Like Bdale says sounds like it trying to light 120v or not. Poor connections at the back of fridge, 120v cord at the back  of the fridge loose corroded?

It needs 12V to the board whether on propane or AC power. Check inside the inspection door on the outside of the coach for the security of the 12V  connection. Check AC plug also.

Good news!  After resetting the wires and connections on the board and restarting the fridge the clicking is gone...must have been a poor connection.  As always...thanks for everyone's help!  ^.^d
