Title: How many Qts does the Cummins take?
Post by: Michaeloh59 on October 05, 2018, 12:35:55 am
I had such good luck with the info y'all provided for servicing my Kubota genny I thought I should ask about big Red too. Since my local auto parts store has diesel oil on sale for $13.99/ gal I thought I oughta buy enough for the next oil change. I haven't done it before so I need to know how many gallons does the beast require? And of course any other advice you care to offer regarding the oil and filter change? It is a 97 Cummins 10.9L Red Top. Thanks in advance.

Best answer.... go to Barry beams technical website and look under hoses, belts and oil quantity's. I think it's 28 qts or so.

Now is a good time to use the correct amount of oil and check that the dipstick is correct, rather than filling to the dipstick mark.

You need to either go to Cummins QuickServe Online (https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html) or call Cummins with your engine number (this is on a tag located on the curb side of the engine somewhat between the A/C compressor and the engine ECM) to find out what oil pan your engine left Cummins with then, you will know for sure your oil capacity.  All coaches didn't end up with the same oil pan.  With this info you can correctly calibrate your dipstick.
