My ignition switch has loosened up to the point where I have to reach under the dash and hold the switch while turning the key. I can't figure out how to tighten. Tried to turn the outer bezel while holding, but to no avail.
I would appreciate any advice from the collective.

It's hard to get that bezel tight. There's a special tool to grab the indents. I usually use a drift or a little screwdriver along with a light tap while holding the back of the switch. This action takes three hands. I'd do as Glen suggests and replace the switch anyhow as there's a good chance it will fail sometime down the line. Also a good idea to replace the start solenoid as it's a common fail point too. Good luck.

Glen, thanks for the link. I will study it to see if it helps. right now, I am not having any troubles with the switch itself, just can't get the ring tight .
Jor, do they sell the tool? I assume it is a type of spanner wrench. The reason the switch is loose, the engine failed to start a year or so ago. No crank, no nothing. Thought it might be the switch, rotated bezel but could not remove. Now it is loose. Turned out to be the start solenoid (thanks to one of the forum members helping me out) which I replaced already. Hopefully it should last a long time.

I queried ebay with "ignition bezel tool" and came up with this. I never bought one. I've had two loosen up like yours. You can tighten it. Just have your helper hold the switch while you lightly tap on one of the bezel indents.

Thanks for your effort Jor. I will probably have the DW help and I will try to tighten w/screwdriver. If all else fails, then buy the right tool :))

Try finding an older gm technician or. A mechanic who does hot rod work. I doubt the auto parts loan a tool programs stock them
