Title: Solenoid for lp ?
Post by: bigfoot on October 21, 2018, 11:53:29 pm
Was wondering if a non mechanic type should try and remove a non operative solenoid. The screws are not easy to get to esp the one closer to the body of coach. Could cit it out but then you have to piece everything back together. I am sure a good few on this forum could. Of so.eone makes it sound easy I might do it. Thanks in advance.

Measure the overall length and put a pipe nipple of the same length and size. in the solenoid's place. Solenoids are no longer used on the LP line.

This cat is living up to his nickname!! Dictator Cat. Sun comes up. He stands on my chest yelling he wants HIS Half & Half dairy creamer!! NOW!! I put a spot of it on a saucer about the size of a silver dollar. He laps it up in less than a minute.
Yesterday he thought he was two years old and proceeded to tear up and down the hallway and make a loop thru the dining room, flying over furniture and going at full speed. When he does his "exercise racing", his tail fluffs up huge compared to his normal size.
If he catches us watching him he will quit and walk around like it never happened.
His problem with failure to make the leap up on to something seems to have gone. This nut case is back to jumping from the floor to the back of my office chair with no problem at all. He even jumped from the bed up to the high chiffarobe(sp?) with no problem. A leap of about five feet.
He is back to normal. Now he comes and lays down between my arms while I am trying to type. And I speed type. I use two fingers!! :))

Bob, your propane "sniffer" has undoubtedly aged out and most of the new ones do not control a solenoid. They do have a built-in age limit and will let you know when they have "timed out".

Keep the solenoid body. Just remove the plunger by removing four screws, a 10 minute task.

Cut and tie off the 12VDC wire. Done!

What Tim said, BUT, turn off the propane at the tank first. Make sure you have adequate ventilation when you start taking the solenoid apart!! NO SMOKING ANYWHERE NEAR THE SOLENOID!! Give the propane time to dissipate.
After you are done, open the propane supply valve and check, then double check for leaks.
Keep an eye on the system for a couple days. Blue bottle flies/garbage flies are attracted to the smell of propane. If you see some around your propane compartment it means you probably have a leak.
