1995 Foretravel Grand Villa RV with 3208 Cat Engine - $5000 (FORT WORTH)
Hi all,
Last week I read through some of the "Discussion" forum posts and someone had listed the above Ft Worth Craigslisting.
I contacted the owner and arrange to travel down to Ft Worth, I've been looking for some rims & tires for my 86 GV. A bit of a drive from Loveland CO to Ft Worth but well worth it.
The owner, John, is finally retiring for good, he sold is CAT Engine rebuild business last year, he's got over 300 CAT engines sitting in his warehouse, and is selling his warehouse. I'll post Johns info below if you need any engine bits or parts I'd recommend calling him.
So, what I ended up with: total cost $1,100.00
- a front rim 22.5x7.5 and a decent Bridgestone tire
- a rear rim 22.5x7.5 and another decent Bridgestone tire
- the original speedometer & tachometer
- the two hood access doors
- the front hubcap and rear hubcap (aka top hat) along with the lug covers
Note: the 95 GV is gutted, John got it that way. It sustained what looks to be a kitchen fire that spread to the ceiling and the vent above. In all not much of the inside is salvageable. The engine is a 3208T with the hydroelec pump used for the cooling fan.
Also, John has an early GV, the late model wedge nose and metal sink... only the nose remains. It's stripped down to the frame from the drivers seat to the rear. It has a 3208T (same as my 86 GV) that John states is in good condition and runs.

Thanks for the heads up, Bob! Did the GV you pulled the wheels off still have the rear engine compartment access grill? I think Pierce has been looking for one of those for years. If it is available, and the correct size for his coach, I'm betting he would jump on it.
VERY weird.
There was no Foretravel in 1995 that would have come with the Caterpillar 3208.
U240 had Caterpillar 3116.
Some U300's and perhaps a very few 320's had the Caterpillar 3176.
Both these in-line 6 cylinders vs the V8 configuration of the 3208.
So, wonder if he put one of his engines in it???
Brett,
That's the coach that was discussed on the Forum and everybody said it wasn't really a '95...actually much older. Remember?

It's the double headlights which makes this 86-88 GV.
I didn't look at the data plate, just took Johns word. I was focused on getting the parts I wanted so this could be an later model.
Chuck & Jeannie,
Yes, the grills look in ok condition; it had three. One on either side and the rear grill. John did not have the key for the grills, I'd recommend bringing a key or two that may fit this year model, have your own tools helped also.
Also, most of the outer fiberglass looked ok, the doors were in ok condition.
Thanks Bob

Thanks, Bob. I just wrote John regarding the HWH six packs. I'm looking for a new front manifold block. I gotta find out what year that thing is and if the manifolds are the same as my 97.

If any other forum members go by there to "pick the bones" ask what they want for the 2 complete tail light assemblies. I'd run over there myself but we have two doctor appointments this week that are keeping us tied down.
@ jor,
With that coach having an Oshkosh chassis the manifolds were different.
I'm kind of late to this discussion with this info.
After seeing the rear mural, that coach belonged to Murry January when it was new. I have lost track of him but he lived in the area around Denton and our paths crossed at the local campgrounds from time to time. This was long before '95s were made seems like it was a '88 though.
Mike
Jor,
John has hundred of CAT engines so he may have what you're looking for. Thanks Bob
Arghhhh... Of course. Thanks.

Just noticed this post and put his number in "speed dial." Called him and hope the rear engine doors are the same size. Will post as I hear more.

Bone pickers, I could use a couple of the under, upper cabinet halogen light assemblies. I'd be happy to pay for the lights, time and shipping. Not sure who to contact....
Just to clear the air (or create more confusion): In the 'U' series, the first year for the 3116 was '93. Prior to that, the 3208 was standard on the ORED platform. I've looked at both set-ups, and it's hard to believe anyone would attempt to drop a 3116 into a chassis that had a 3208.
Before I realized that the air manifolds are different I had emailed John. Anyhow, he got right back and said they are willing to take off parts and ship them.

Thanks Jor, email sent to John.
Sent him an email this morning, should have address this evening

I contacted them but found that the engine access door is 6 inches narrower on the 96" Foretravels. I need a 56 inch width, theirs is 50.5 inches. Height is the same.
