Had enough room to throw in a ball valve and have the 5 gal tank to run everything except the gen set. I keep the big tank full, so if we boondock or have a power outage, I've got plenty. We get (+-) 3 weeks to a month out of it. With the temps dropping here in the desert, the furnace is running a lot in the morning, so we'll recharge sooner than usual, but, big deal taking the baby tank down, rather than moving the coach! ^.^d
I filled my tank 1.5 yrs ago... just under 1/2 tank now..but not full timing
Full timers, living on 'the edge' have a different outlook. Just like the fuel tank, I like to keep my propane tank FULL! We also have canned goods, frozen foods, Pacifico beer and Jamesons whiskey stashed away JUST IN CASE! ^.^d
Mike,
That's a 3 gal 20lb tank. Propane is about 7lb per gallon. Just so you know. :)
So I've had some crappy luck lately but one bright point was filling up with propane in Russell, KS for $1.89 a gallon! Best price I've ever seen at retail.

OMG! You mean all the propane dealers have been ripping me blind by tricking their meters to indicate I'm putting 4.9 gallons in every time I run out? What is the world coming to?
Propane is 4.24 pounds per gallon A 20 pound tank holds about 4.7 gallons thus a 20 pound tank is 19.92 pounds or roughly 20 lbs. Not sure at what temp. these measurements are made. I'd say 4.9 Gal. is pretty full. They try for an 80% fill to allow for heat expansion, or surface area for the liquid to boil off of, which is necessary for heavy loads like generators or big commercial cooking stoves.
