Title: Slide pin springs
Post by: bigdog on November 19, 2018, 05:19:44 pm
Just picked up the coach after having the shop put on the slide pin assist springs which were accidentally missed in the brake rebuild.
Mechanic said they were small but very stout springs and was a bear to compress the both of them when reassembling. Said they bit his fingers a few times.

Brakes are now all perdy and are working like they should.

Not sure what is meant by 'both of them'. Assume only one spring to a corner, 4 in total on coach.

I just put a set on a wheel this past weekend while replacing a leaking front wheel seal.  They aren't very hard to squeeze on...at least I didn't think some.

I put in new slide pins as well.  Old pins looked fine (greasy), but I bought several sets off eBay for a nice price.  I'll clean and keep the good used ones.  I've had the chrome bubble up in the past.

Nope - two slide pins on each caliper, and each pin gets a "helper spring", so two springs per corner.

Maybe he was a wimpy mechanic . The shop foreman was the one who told me about the mechanic saying they bit him.

I goofed, meant one spring on each slide pin, so two springs per corner.  Thanks.
