Title: brakes
Post by: jtucker24 on December 08, 2018, 02:15:44 pm
I inherited my dads 1989 Foretravel motorhome. And there is a redlight on the dash for brakes. And when you start to drive it and you come to a stop the brakes lock up. Then we bleed the brakes and it's ok again until you come to a stop. Then it locks up again. Can someone help?

Welcome to the ForeForum.

Please tell us what chassis/model you have.  There were gas, diesel and within diesel several choices for chassis.

36 foot, Granvilla, Gas. Is the Engine in the rear, it would be a Ford 460cid, if so, the brake light that you are talking about could be the parking brake, a stand alone round light off to the left side of the dash with a brake release lever next to it, if so that would be your parking brake and it works off of the power steering pump, check the fluid level in the big round reservoir under the bed on the driver side rear of the engine or it could be the hydro boost master cylinder to the brake system that is also ran foff of the power steering unit.
The brake system is designed to reply the park brake after 15 seconds if the system has a falt.
There is another brake light in the instrument cluster for the hydraulic side of the brakes (brake  fluid) that the hydro boost works the master cylinder

thank you. The engine is in the front of the motorhome.  Do you know where I can get a manual for this darn thing?

If engine in front then it is 29 or 30 or 33 ft coach.  Post a photo of the mfg plate on wall on left side of driver seat.

Could be brake master cyl.  If it has a Chevy engine good chance the P 30 manual will help.

To tell if it is a Chevrolet chassis, look under the front.  Is it independent front suspension with lower A arm very visible.  If so, a Chevy P Chassis.

Solid front axle could be Ford, John Deere or Oshkosh.
