Title: Crash in shower.
Post by: Carol & Scott on December 11, 2018, 09:24:04 am
While laying in bed last night we heard a loud CRASH.  Got up and looked in the shower and the Corian soap shelf fell off of the wall and shattered into a number of pieces.

We are looking to replace the soap shelf with something.  Of course the shower soap shelf matched the Corian of the shower wall.

Any one run into this and what did you use to replace it?

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Take the old pieces to a cabinet shop that does Corian. It's really easy to cut and shape so if they have the color, you are in.

And if a good color match is not available, go with a contrasting, complimentary color.

Thanks guys -

The flat end pieces have broken into numerous pieces as well as the round and half round horizontal pieces.

Will stop by a corian shop and see what they think.

A Corian shop should be able to make a matching replacement. I had to have the shower wall and shelf replaced, and it is a perfect match.

This was a shop used by Temecula Valley RV in SoCal. My original shower wall had developed a long crack that included the shelf.

Found a shop in Magnolia that will do it on the side.  Will take the parts over and see what they say.

The shop that we visited was: A to Z Millwork in Magnolia, TX.

They are a commercial shop that will reproduce the shower soap shelf.  We have made a couple of design changes and they are also making a small shelf for Carol to shave her legs.  They will also provide adhesive to attach both to the shower wall.

Don't know the price yet...............

They think they can match the color as well.

Thanks all......  ^.^d

Use a functional shower caddy.  We hung ours from the wall towel rack mount.

Our 1997 U295 did not have a shelf or soap holder so we added a Stainless wall mount soap dispenser. A single for me and a triple for the DW, go figure.  4 years use and no issues.

Thanks John -

The design of the new one will be fabricated a bit differently.  The horizontal pieces will now be square.  We may put it in place with the Corian matching adhesive.  It should never come down.  ;D  When it fell it sure got our attention.  :D

Got the piece back today and installed it.  $150.00 - cash.  I know I could have gotten a different kind and do appreciate everyone's input but felt the Corian shelf was best.

Also had them make a foot rest for my DW so she can do something in there with a razor.  Haven't installed the foot rest yet - tomorrow.  :D

Yes, the soap dish is tilted a bit to the port side.  oops.

Why is the shower valve so low?

Good question I had also pondered.  Best guess it's there for the vertically challenged/seated use, ergo the sliding shower holder, and also ease of access to the plumbing from behind the shower...in mine access to rear of the valve body is behind the lower panel in the makeup mirror corner cabinet.  But I also think that parallax in the picture makes it look lower than it actually is.  Woody.

It is pretty low.  Kitchen cabinets are on the other side of the wall.
