Noticed what I believe to be hydraulic fluid dripping from a small hole in the center of the part shown in the photos. It is located in the left front bay where the generator release lever and windshield washer jug is. Would appreciate information on what it is and what needs to be done to repair/replace. Isnt that the steering box?
Yea, that is the steering gear. Lots of threads on R&R and rebuild sources. Good luck.

Thanks, thought it may be but could not find anything that indicated a "weep hole" on the plate. Must be there to indicate something blown inside.

When an internal seal goes bad it needs a weep hole to keep the steering from locking up. Similar to the old fuel pumps and water pumps having weep holes to keep gas and water out of the oil. Many times there is a small rubber plug in the hole on the steering boxes to keep contamination out, but it will blow out when an internal seal fails.
That explains it; I am familiar with the old water pump weep hole. MOT replied that it was the steering sector (assume same as steering box) and quoted $1800-$2000 parts and labor. Will check around before I decide what to do. Thanks for all the info.

That's a fair price for the job.
