Title: No current coming to trailer
Post by: bigfoot on December 15, 2018, 11:31:34 am
No current to trailer. Would I start with fuses in outside engine compartment by the bed or is there another place to look. Thanks

Bob,

You are going to have to give us more info for us to be of assistance.

Are you referring to power to the 4 way or 7 way plug at the back of the motorhome?

If so, to which wire/terminal?

Brett, is the seven way coming from motorhome. I have not checked fuses yet but was just checking with the board to get the trouble shooting sequence or steps. Sorry I was not clear or did not give enough info. Thanks again

Did you actually check with a volt meter or just plugged it in and get no lights on trailer?

I just pluged it in but trailer lights are good, had it working on my truck.

OK, if referring to the lights on the trailer, I would check voltage IN and OUT of the 2-3 converter:
Amazon.com: Tekonsha 118158 2 to 3 Taillight Converter: Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/Tekonsha-118158-Taillight-Converter/dp/B001GKQZQG).

Check ground first .    Unlikely that all of the circuits are dead.
Then check flashers, and run lights.  Pretty sure that the tap is the DS tail light harness.

Check for actual power at the plug. The terminals in one half can compress and not make good contact with the other half some times.

Yes, you can spread the terminals apart a little bit with a knife in the slot.

Check that it actually has a 12 power wire installed.  My seven way plug did not have a 12 volt power wire going to it, just 4 wires for the lights.  I needed a 12 v power wire to run the brakes for the toad.  Had to use one of the extra wire Foretravel installs in the back to run a 12v power wire to 7 way trailer plug.
