I'm in the process of replacing rusty fuel and coolant lines lines (tubes) located on the right (facing forward) side of the ISM engine. In doing so, I had to remove a small tube that is a combination of solid and braided stainless steel (see photo) that is located just below the air compressor outlet cooling tube (photo). To orient the photo, the orange part is the remainder of the cut hose for the cooling tube (removed). The rear of the coach is toward the right. I put a temporary 3/8" vacuum cap over the flair fitting. The tube comes out the top and turns 90 degrees toward the front of the rig and attaches to another flair fitting.
Does anyone know what is in the center of the photo - power steering pump? The small black circle is the top of the rubber vacuum line cap that I inserted to keep dirt out.
Just a little more info: The remains of the orange hose is a attached to the air compressor on the right. The object in question is to the left in the photo and is forward and below the air compressor.
That would be your fuel pump.
The nut/cap that is next to where you removed that fitting (to the right in the pics.) is a cap that has a filter under it. That cap has an O ring seal also. If you are doing P/M work you should think about changing out this filter and O ring while you are right there.
There was another member that had a problem with that cap leaking several weeks ago I will hunt down that thread and link it here so you can look it over.

ANOTHER fuel filter??? Thanks Pamela & Mike (don't want to make an assumption as to which it was), that's a big help. I will look into replacing that filter, O ring, etc.

This is one place that is most overlooked by owners. There are shops that have no idea that there is a filter in that location. These are the shops that will tell you the fuel pump is bad and you need a new pump when it is this filter is stopped up. Don't feel bad because I have never seen those filters mentioned in any FT service paperwork either.
This is one place that you want a Cummins OEM filter and not "replacement, as good as, or generic"

This is the hose and filter in question. Together, with the O ring, the cost was $81. Better than having a fuel problem on the road.
Any numbers stamped on it by chance?

Not to split rabbits, but, The filter looks to be a "strainer". Strainers do filter, but only the big really pieces, like small pianos.
Flexible hose: 3161622 ($52.92)
Screen rotor (filter/strainer): 146483 ($19.27)
O Ring: 3021123 ($3.32)
Richard Bark (RBark) hounded me into using the Cummins Quick Serve website (Cummins Inc. :: QuickServe Online (https://quickserve.cummins.com)) to find the correct parts for my particular serial number. When you register, it will ask for that number and use that as a reference in looking up the parts you need.
One of the compressor coolant tubes had sprung a pin hole leak while we were at a rally. I took the hint and replaced all the rusty tubes, along with the associated hoses, while at home with my tools.
Just curious, is this specific to certain years or should all coaches have this filter?

Only certain engines. Electronic M-11s/ ISM engines will have one. The mechanical 8.3 Cummins engines are different. With your coach being in the year with the engine swap over yours could go either way.
