Title: Hyd Cooling Fan Motors
Post by: Wattalife54 on December 26, 2018, 06:29:26 pm
Does anyone have a drawing of the hyd fan motors hose arrangement. I need to reseal the motors and want to plug the supply/return hoses to avoid unnecessary oil spillage. If anyone has done this please let me know what size plugs were used.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
Hopefully someone can answer your specific question.

BUT (yes, large BUT), I can't imagine changing/overhauling the fan motors and not changing both fluid and filters at the same time.

Bob,

I didn't do my motors, but I did rebuild my fan system hydraulic pump.  The link below might give you a clue as to what size plugs you will need:

(I think the "inch" measurement below each part number refers to the size wrench that fits the hex head.  Been a while since that project)

Most hyd hose shops will sell a very flexible cone shaped plug to plug the hoses.

I just put a wrench on the fittings and then took the wrench to a hydraulic shop and they were able to match the caps and plugs for me. I have a big bag if caps and plugs to fit every hydraulic hose on the coach. So much easier than draining the oil every time. With the caps and plugs I can change a hose and only lose a .5 cup of oil of less.

I've been to a bunch of hydraulic shops over the years and so far everyone I've been to has been filled with the nicest guys you will ever want to meet. All of em' went way out of their way to help me. Most dragged me into the back room and started pulling parts out of boxes trying to match up to what I needed. I just wish diesel shops were the same way!

see ya

Barry Beam has SHM2/22 motors (2003 U320). From what I can determine they are a Haldex/? product. Sven and Kristi have Saur Sundstrand motors (2000 U320). Both were repaired with the same kit. I have the SHM2/22 motors (1997 U320).  Apparently there is no manufacturer consistency from year to year.

Seal Kit    221.20.034.OK

Thanks to every one for suggestions and advice.

Bob,
1. That is the same motors as is in our '97
2. Seems like the blue light special was what was used.
3. I will have to check that number later today (after seeing the DR) and report back as to what we used on our coach.

Caflashbob,
I got this info from Sven and Kristi,

Turolla in Ames, IA,, a division of Berendsen Fluid Power (800) 722-4975 for the seal kit.

Yes, If the motors are the same as Barry or Sven. I hoping mine will also be the same as theirs. Won't be sure until it is disassembled.

Bob Rozek,

Just got up to the shop and those are the same kits that was for our pumps also.  If you have time you can take the old seals to Motion Ind. and they can match them up, as they do have metric seals. I can't find the part number from Motion for the seals but they have been able to get them before.

Thanks Mike,

That's comforting information since I ordered the kits this morning. There is a 3 week lead time on delivery.

Inquiring  minds may or may not want to know!
Latest update on Hydraulic fan motor saga--  Finally got new motor in from Italy through Iowa (wholesaler) to Little Rock I ordered mid November and it arrived 2-26-2019
I talked to the wholesaler in Iowa and was informed that the slow delivery happens every year  Fall and Spring--they don't know the reason only that they have trouble getting motors from Mfg.
I paid 389.61 shipping -taxes and all
There is a price break if we order 5 to 9 pumps the price is $321.00 each 10 or more price is $274.00 each.
I have talked to local distributor (Berendsen Fluid power) and they have agreed to palace an order for us (forum members) if there is enough interest.  This is not the motor with valve body although the wholesaler says the 2 motors are the same, it is motor without valve body.  Also I talked to the Salvage person in Kentucky and he assured me they had the motors in stock and would be $700.00 plus shipping
If any one is interested in ordering a spare motor please pm me and I will work out details with Berendsen Fluid power
I feel reasonably sure there would be some additional shipping depending on how far from Tulsa,Ok you are located (Tulsa is main office to Little Rock branch)  Local guy(Marty) said they would place one order.  Once everything came into Tulsa it would be shipped to individuals.
I'm not making anything on this just offering to coordinate if anyone is interested.  I do plan to order another one.
Thanks All
Chris

Chris,

Might be a good idea to contact James Triana to see verify that the two fan motors ARE the same and also exactly what year and model coaches that PN fits.

Sorry, I didn't give all info
The motor number is SHM2/22. C002 MIH2E.  this is number on motor.  The last 5 digits don't seem to count when ordering motor
That number changes to M121.21.008.00 Mfg part number

I have emailed James but probably the best way to verify is to clean the motor and check number on your individual system.  My numbers were on the bottom of motor and I had to get it really clean to see them
Also, I plan to gather info from those that are interested through this Friday  March 8.  After that I will notify all those who are.        interested of purchase details
Thanks
Chris

You have newer coaches than ours, and maybe Foretravel learned something along the way, but our 1993 has a pump that is a standard pump EXCEPT that Foretravel decided it needed a longer shaft, making it a custom part. When our fan motor blew we spent a month getting and sending back parts from FOT. The only part they couldn't supply was the pump. A machinist/mechanic friend took the old pump apart, pronounced it in perfect shape, put a seal kit in it and we put it back on the coach. Still running with that pump several years later.
