Title: MHOT experience?
Post by: grc on December 28, 2018, 11:13:04 pm
I see lots of older posts about Motohomes of Texas - all quite positive.  I'd be interested in seeing more current reviews from any who have done business with them more recently.

I was there in October to have them go over our coach and fix whatever they came across that they thought needed attention. Keith Risch worked on my coach and found things others would not have seen. I was treated fair, felt very confident with the work performed, and was allowed to watch them do repairs and answer my many questions. I wanted my coach to be in the best possible shape for our trip deep into Mexico. They were going through personnel changes when we arrived. Seems that some mechanics moved on to other shops for a few more dollars in pay. That is the American Way, though, and I hope they were able to find some more knowledgeable help. They were " backed up " when we arrived, due to the manpower issue, and some of the other folks who were scheduled after us had to stay around a few days longer than they had hoped for. MOT has a great camping facility ( but no laundry ) so if you have to stay, it isn't the worst thing in the world. I will return without hesitation.

My experiences at MOT continue to impress. Keith Risch is a treasure. Eric Barnes and James work hard to make you feel like the top priority even though there plenty of people in waiting.  Their technical abilities and experience with FTs make projects and fixes predictable. MOTs willingness to make things right keeps me coming back and recommending their service center! As cliche as it may sound, Service is their obsession.

Being a non full timer, there are several great choices of motorhome/RV services centers in my hometown of Fort Worth which I have previous experiences with from travel trailer days; however, they pale in comparison.  MOT wants problems solved, not just to finalize your bill. Shop hours are not insignificant anywhere price wise. I often think I'm in the wrong line of work, but unlike other experiences, even in Nacogdoches, MOT continues to impress.

I was last there in August, and actually look forward to the necessity of an unpredicted stop next week. It feels like I'm going to see friends! You are welcome to PM me about any specifics if I can be of further assistance in sharing my experiences with MOT.

And to add, Trina in upholstery at MOT is a great person doing quality work.

We had some bulkhead repairs, service, and a few other minor repairs done in October. We left the coach with them for a month. Everything was completed when we returned. Nice folks to deal with.

I do however have a few minor issues with some of the repairs. In all fairness to MOT, I was in a hurry to get out of there on a Friday afternoon and didn't inspect the repairs closely. Had I made Eric aware I'm sure it would have been corrected. Moral of the story, no matter where you have repairs done inspect them carefully before you leave.

We have been going there everytime we are in NAC (almost every year it seems) and they do a great job.  Going again in two weeks.  Trina works magic, she cleaned our front chairs upholstery and re-foamed them too.  She is making a new cushion and dash cover for us that will be done when we get there.  Keith R has been on my coach every time we have been there.  If I had three thumbs they would get them all. 👍👍👍

I was there last year for bulkhead repair and a few other things. I give them a B, verging on a B+. I would return there for work.

I'd read in my files that work had been done at a shop in Phoenix by the PO, so I figured I'd use them. They were expensive, but friendly and helpfull when I first contacted them. What broke the deal was when I told them I wanted to be there, in person, to see what they were doing. They passed, so did I.

Thanks everyone for the perspective, looks quite positive.

Does anyone have any recent purchasing experience?  We're thinking about looking at a couple of consignment rigs they have right now.

In purchasing, you will want to exercise the most diligence. You will want a third party inspector, hire Keith Risch or Brett Wolfe if possible.

Do extensive test drive over various terrains. Play with the HWH system, get on roof of course, check, check, check, and double check! If I bought again I'd want to see a Blackstone Analysis personally.

I would have in my budget from the get go a full LOF, new belts, and $10k contingency fund for things you want to add/improve/repair.

The expert inspector like Keith or Brett will pay off tenfold!

We have bought three at MOT, one at FOT and one elsewhere.  They are both very reputable.  That said, it's up to you, not them, to find the problems.  Once you write the check and leave the lot it's your baby.  I wish we'd checked closer on one of our purchases.  The others were good buys, including the one in October from MOT.  This time I'm pretty well convinced it's our final coach.  Has everything we ever wanted in one.
