Title: Anyone familiar with this coach?
Post by: Ralph on January 13, 2019, 11:28:48 pm
A friend of mine is shopping for a used class A and I'm trying to steer him toward a Foretravel. He is listening, and has found this one on cragslist...I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything about it.

 1997 Foretravel U295 Class-A Diesel pusher - rvs - by owner - vehicle... (https://orlando.craigslist.org/rvs/d/davenport-1997-foretravel-u295-class/6791564057.html)

Standard engines were the 300 hp Cat or 325 Cummins. Check for some modifications. I do see 3 panels on the roof. But, upgraded air conditioners and nice flooring. Worth paying for a PDI.

Due to what I see in photo #7, I would thoroughly inspect the rear bulkhead.

Would call the owner and actually talk to him and try and determine if a scam, seems he never heard of a cashiers check, there is
nothing wrong with paypal other then the fee,if both parties have it it's a good way to pay.Anyone who would bring cash to a
sale of that kind is a ripoff looking to happen.Should be members nearby that could help look it over.

Is it really a 1997?  Mine has the ac ducts in the ceiling. I have Cummins and my air cleaner is not in the same location..

It looks like Larry's, in which case it is a 96'. The asking price is higher than Larry's last posted so maybe a flipper got ahold of it...

I have not seen Larry's coach in person but the ad states Royal Oak cabinetry when it appears to be Walnut and the term "Retard Break  with 6 resistance settings" indicate to me that this is not an ad placed by Larry but someone who is trying to flip the coach.

The ad sort of says that: I'm surprised there was not a pot of chicken soup on the stove!  ^.^d

Yep, my friend talked to this guy and he is a flipper alright...some red flags here. Larry is still active here occasionally so I sent him a PM for more info, hopefully he will see it in a day or two.

Bill. The state of the wet bay floor and general view of pipe opening would to me ask what it was like under the rubber mat etc.
Just a gut feeling

The link is not working now.  When I spoke with Larry a month or so ago, he was under 30K for coach.  Don't remember the exact figure he said he would take and he was close to me.  The rig now is about a 100 miles up and west of Orlando from me now.  It sure looks like Larry's, but like someone else stated, I believe Larry sold the coach.  Notice in the background of the other rigs sitting in the yard.

The seam appears to be wider at the bottom than the top.  I have circled the area in question in the picture below.  Maybe the bulkhead has been fixed, and this is an old separation.  For the price this guy is asking, it's such a nice looking coach otherwise, maybe who cares and just get the bulkhead fixed if it is an issue.

Posting has been removed, but a 1997 u295 that may have lived most of its life in Florida, could be a good choice.

Strange that the post got deleted today after we have discussion on it.  As stated about it is looking like it is a 1996 not 1997

I'd think they'd post and when a few of us start asking questions, they pull it down. "100 kw gen set' was another tip-off. I don't trust adds when the interior is 'dressed'. Surprised they did not have a copy of "Travels with Charley" sitting in full view.

Look at the opening at the sewer drain, if you enlarge the photo appears to be rust at rear.

Sewer drain looks to have been replaced, probably the best way to settle this is to get Larry's opionion, where are you Larry?

Thanks John! When I spoke with Larry, he was ready to dump it.  It just wasn't the coach for us and we wished him well.  I'm pretty sure that is his old coach and it is a '96 with I believe, 179k on miles.

Definitely compromised flooring in that wet bay. Look to the left of the sewage drain pipe.

Actually Johnhart is a salesman-- at least, the Craigslist listing is under "by dealer". So, the ad in our classified section and on the thread here have been removed.

Craiglist listings are sometimes a scam. They take a picture of another persons' posts and reposts it to craiglist for a bargain price. Hoping to get a deposit. All pictures on enet can be googled to see if it was posted previously. The reason I have seen this is when following UTV for sale. Some UTV 13years old are asking $6500 and then you will see a 2014 UTV for $5500 and you know it is a scam. A John Deere UTV that is 5 years old is selling for $7500 and then there is the 2015 Deere that is $5500.
Since UTV are something farmers are interested in buying, one can go to Used Farm Equipment for Sale | Machinery Pete (http://www.machinerypete.com) and see the selling prices of all thing farm related.
