Title: Mid Engine Cummins Motorhome

Neighbor in our campground has a Cummins Mid-Engine diesel Travel Supreme motorhome with a huge motorcycle in its 'garage'.

I have read about mid-engine years ago, but this is my first close-up.

The company I worked for sold Travel Supreme.  We displayed a TS toy hauler mid engine in our display, the Portland, Oregon Expo RV show, approximately  2006 or 2007, with the Smart Car dealer, with a Smart Car in the back.  It was on tour around the nation, owned by TS, and not for sale.  I liked it, but the fact we could not sell it, the only one showing it was the hard working TS representative. They went out of business in 2008.

Interesting but no access to the engine. Imagine dropping the engine to replace an alternator

There is a hatch in the floor to access the engine-- at least on the ones I saw.

And the chassis was never used for what I thought was it's best use-- a very short diesel with excellent weight distribution and handling.

Any one remember the old Crown buses with the Hall Scott engine in the middle? I almost bought one to do a conversion years ago.

As I remember, there were quite a few buses and some RVs with mid-engined diesels lying on their side. Cummins and Detroit 6-71 were popular. Still have to be some school buses on the road with that configuration. Cummins used several of their engines in Crowns and were called 3 degree engines as they were tilted 3 degrees to allow oil to flow to a special oil pan. They also had sprayers for the rocker arms.

Europeans have long used air cooled boxer diesels in trucks and buses. Saves a lot of room and the number of cylinders can be increased by 2 depending on the HP required. This was in the 1980's and not sure how emission standards have effected the air cooled diesels.

Sure would make things easier to get to rather than having the engine back in a cave.

My White bus was mid engine. International 6 gas with crown oil pan.laid on it's side.
