Title: power tech fan
Post by: CAPEHORN31 on January 25, 2019, 11:13:54 am
On my 1997 power tech 10kw generator is there a fan relay in the control box?  Also is the fan thermostatically controlled because the fan does not come on when the air temp is less the 35 degrees?  I replaced the fan circuit breaker last year.

Thanks,
Terry

My '99 just has a circuit breaker and is on anytime a/c power is generated from the generator.

I'm not aware of a thermostatically controlled switch but I've had to replace the small pushbutton breaker twice and the main fan switch once on my '97.  If yours is off below 35 deg and then comes on after the coolant temp rises above 35, sounds like a temp control of some kind.  Or an intermittent breaker or fan switch that fails when it gets cold.  I'd test them with a continuity meter, or short the wires, to rule that out.

Mine is like Cranemans in all the time when the gen is running. I have had to replace that breaker a time or two.

There is a cooling fan CB in the control box, but I don't know if it is controlled by a thermostat.  I've attached a diagram I drew after doing a lot of trouble shooting, trying to find out why my fan was not coming on.  Craneman was a great help in this.  Hope it helps.
