I am rebuilding my exhaust system installing a resinator. The area where the pipe drops down is close. I removed the old cracked black material and am reinsulating with as product called KoolMat.
I live in NASCAR country and we have lots of specialty shops nearby that provide services. This product is used in racecars to keep the heat out. I met the owner Pat and decided to use their product. This mat will withstand 1100 degree temp. They also are making me a set of covers for the exhaust elbow to keep heat down. Ill post pics when project is complete.
How do you attach it to stuff. Like is there a special high temp adhesive for it ?
I don't see a reason why you could not install a clamp around the pipe to hold the material on. Easy removal when need be.
Silicone or a adhesive. am going to use silicone and some stainless screws and fender washers/ It cuts real easy with scissors.
This product does not attach to the exhaust pipe itself. This will line the area where the pipe comes off the turbo and turns down to go under the coach . The pipe is real close in that area to the bed framework. The pipe will also have a shield attached to it that is rated at 2400 degrees. I will have no worries with that area getting to hot.
Thank you stump, I was worried about someone actually attaching that insulation directly to a diesel exhaust pipe and having it ignite on a long climb. I'm always leary about miracle insulation claims of websites. Miracle insulation does exist, and have one thing in common ultra low density almost like a vacuum.
This stuff can go as high as R-30 per inch, so expensive it could make NASA cringe, and literally flies off of the shelf cause it can be lighter than air.

Looks interesting. Keep us informed on how it works. If it does what it claims, could be handy in gen compartment for the sound insualting capabilities also it would seem.

I finished my resinator install today. Due to the tight area this was the best configuration I could come up with. A lot of cutting pipes to get them in far enough to try and make everything line up.
I lined the area with the high heat mat. It is secured with 3M adhesive,sheet metal screws and washers. I came off the turbo with a 45 elbow into a 90 elbow. I had to cut the 45 to get proper length. The 90 goes into resinator and s 90 that is cut short comes out. I had to use a short piece of flex becsuse hole in side of coach was not inline. I used a 24" turnout stack that I cut to length for the exhaust tip. I fabricated 2 brackets one to hold the tailpipe the other that bolts to frame. I found a Donaldson muffler hanger that secures the resinstor to my bracket.
It sounds good. It is louder but up front I really cannot tell. I do think engine is more responsive. I will see if I get a milage increase when I load up and head down to Florida for bike week! ^.^d

Wow not much room to work with, looks great, is that the original exhaust exit hole? How heavy was the old muffler can? I need to redo my 5"
oem exhaust as it exits under the bodywork and is constantly getting squashed. Right now it's squashed down to 2" tall oval 7" wide. I have more room to work with.
