Today, our original Sharp convection microwave (R-1871) quit working. (It makes loud noises; nothing heats up; and it's making a burning smell.) We decided to replace it...after all, it's about 19 years old. The problem is, my DH cannot figure out how to remove it from its built-in position. Does anyone know where the bolts/screws/whatever are that are holding it in place? There appears to be a false floor in the cabinet above it however, he cannot find any screws to remove to remove the floor. He is assuming that the false floor is hiding the bolts/screws/whatever which are holding the convection microwave in place. Any advice? Thanks. The new Sharp Convection Microwave comes in 2 days. :)
There are screws going into the side from the cabinet beside it and there may be screws into the top at the front edge also there are levers that are accessible by removing the filters
The front of my microwave and others was supported by screws thru the side of adjacent cabinets.
Might be similar to this 2003 . Microwave Replacement 2003 U295 (http://www.beamalarm.com/Documents/microwave_replacement_2003_u295.html)
Remove the cover trim above the microwave door and see if there are about 3 screws there. Then remove the filters there are 2 bolts there. I let mine down on a 5 gallon bucket.
Thank you everyone for your words of advice...very helpful!!! Ours was somewhat similar to the 2003 U295 instructions. The old Sharp Model R-1871 convection microwave is now removed! It had 3 screws above it (right under the top front edge) and two long screws under it just above the filters. (Nothing in the false floor above it or in the cabinet adjacent to it..ours only had a cabinet on one side of it.) Now to install the new convection microwave (Sharp R-1874T) when it is delivered! Will post updates. Thanks again.
