We have a Dometic Refrigerator with an ice maker, added by a previous owner. I installed quiet fans in the fridge, and it seemed to help a lot with frost buildup on the fins. We still defrosted the fridge about once a month. Recently, we have noticed a "leak" from the ice maker at the very back wall, which forms a big icicle. The fins have some buildup now, but didn't after I installed the fans. Any ideas of how to trace the leak of the ice maker? We think it is the cause of our frost buildup. I am two steps away from yanking the ice maker, getting more freezer space and buying a portable ice making machine ( any recommendations ??) Thanks for any help with this one.....
Glenn,
1. You are 2 steps behind us. We (Mike) removed ours long ago and never looked back
2. The extra freezer space is the best. (especially if you get a windfall of fresh fish)
3. Best thing/gizmo to have around a campsite
3.a Got ours from Costco or Sam's
3b. Best to use distilled water to help keep calcium build up at bay.

will do !!!! Thanks
Mike just told me that ours had just 3 Philips head screws that holds it onto the chill plate and the electric plug. He also made an .063 thick aluminum plate (that the mount holes match the holes in the chill plate) that gives me an extra shelf.
He said that you will need a 00 size rubber plug to fill the hole through the back of the freezer where the water line comes in.

If you think you might want to keep the icemaker, try pulling the front cover off the icemaker and turn the screw that adjusts the water fill down so less water is going in the ice tray. This stopped the icicle in ours. It may work for you.
great idea. We are still going to try and make it work.....at least for now.
