Title: Updated Slide Topper/Awning Options for 2000 Living Room Slide?
Post by: evantwheeler on March 06, 2019, 09:08:08 pm
Curious if anyone has replaced the ZipDee slide awning with a newer style unit?

My fabric is thrashed, and my biggest gripe about the awning is that it isn't wide enough to keep rain from draining down the side, rather, it drains DIRECTLY down the sides of the slide out.  I have some bladder and/or delamination issues, so this equals water in the coach if I don't pull the slide in when it rains (current SOP).  I'm a full timer and cannot justify the time or expense to fix the slide properly by driving to Texas, so I'm thinking the best option is to put a wider topper on it until time allows the correct solution.

Has anyone replaced their ZipDee with something else?  I've searched the site, but have not found any instances of replacements of the OE awning with something different on this era of coach.

Thanks,

Evan

I installed the Girard when I bought my coach 10 years ago - still going strong.

Other awnings generally wont work as the supports that bolt to the side of the coach are wider than the space between the passenger window and the door, so they have no place to mount. Zip dee arms are narrow, so they fit, Girard mounts above with no supports running down the side of coach.

Thanks Tim.  Do you have any photos handy of your Girard with slide in and slide out?

Coach is in 2,000 miles away - and I dont have a picture.

slide is streetside on mine, awning is curbside where the zip dee was installed. I do not have pictures, but as I recall it was the longest length Girard made, and it is mounted on the side of the coach at the roofline. Newer coaches have them mounted on top of the coach, and usually two of them to cover the entire length of the coach. I have the standard Zip dee on the slide and all the rest fo the windows

Correct me if I am wrong, but the OP is looking for a slide topper that is wider than the slide itself.  I would think a call to the awning manufacture would be a start or check with a mobile RV repair company.
