Title: What is this pipe?
Post by: ohsonew on March 31, 2019, 07:45:57 pm
While inspecting the fuel lines on the drivers side, there is a black 2" PVC pipe running length wise above the coach. What is this? I'm thinking maybe a vent line? If so, from where to where? Sorry didn't get any pictures.

Thanks in advance,
Larry

Larry,
Do you mean above the fuel tank rather than "above the coach"?

IF above the fuel tank it is a vent line to vent the battery compartment.  You may have 2 the other one is about 18" more to the center of the coach.  They are run through the front bulkhead.

Thanks Mike,
Sorry for the incorrect phraseology Mike. Yes this line is above the fuel tank. If a vent line for the battery, can it be removed without much difficulty, and then put back when done? If it can, I should be able to reach the fittings for the fuel tank. There wasn't another in the center of the tank. The endoscope I was using showed only the fuel lines going to the center tray area with all the hoses, electric lines, etc. If the vent line can't be easily removed, any reason it can't be cut  and reinstalled with a rubber hose connector similar to what I did for the black tank line when I replaced the valve?

Larry,
You have one of the few tanks that the bosses are in a good place and you should be able to replace the lines without removing the tank. I have found the best thing to do on those coaches is to do as you have stated.  Take a saw and cut the vent pipe off from the walls leaving about 2"stub.  Use the rubber couplings to reinstall.

You should be able to see the open end of the vent line above your batteries.  The other end is hid up behind the left front rear air bag.

Those vents are almost impossible to get  out of the wall. On the later coaches there were 2 vent lines and the hose bosses were moved to the center of the tank and the others return bosses were on the passengers side.
