Title: Replacing Bose Speakers above Driver and Passenger
Post by: tothetrail on April 17, 2019, 04:44:33 pm
Anyone have any suggestions for replacing the hanging Bose speakers up front?  The passenger side on mine has been hanging freely after several attempts to tighten up the bracket.  And now the driver side is rattling.  Both need to go and I'm looking for some type of flat mount style or even the same forward facing style with a more robust bracket, but have been unsuccessful.  Not picky on the brand, just want it to look good.

Maybe a sound bar instead of separates!

I added a sound bar, kept the speakers but seldom use the Bose system.  I did remove one while adding the sound bar and there is a nut so you can tighten up the mount.

The passenger side on mine has been hanging freely after several attempts to tighten up the bracket.  And now the driver side is rattling.
The simplest way to remount them is to move it over a little bit (so the plate covers the old holes), and make new holes. I don't remember whether that area has a solid piece above the thin cabinet veneer. If not, put some 3/4" plywood between the bottom of the cabinet and the bottom of the interior of the cabinet. That will give the screws something to hold on to.

Hope this helps,

Trent

Jennifer, together with Trent's suggestion of adding plywood I also drilled a small hole in the bracket where it rotates and inserted a tight fitting metal pin that keeps the speaker from hanging down.

Thanks everyone.  Looking into the soundbar idea.  I also seldom use the Bose system, so it's doubly annoying that the speakers are just up there flopping around.

Good ideas about the extra plywood and adding a metal pin to the bracket, that should work.  Right now, the brackets are secure to the cabinet wood, it's the speaker brackets themselves that are failing.  But once the cabinet is taken apart again to address the brackets, it's a good idea to just beef up the wood at the same time.

When I had Temecula Valley RV replace my Sony headbanger tv and problematic Bose sound system, they went with Samsung. Here's a photo of the Samsung speaker.

There is also a center front speaker, a sub, and two surround system.

They went with Sony, saying the tv mounting points are stronger than other tv brands.

Thanks Tom.  Yes, that looks like a much better design for a motorhome.  And would also "match" my Samsung TV.

I had a similar problem on my, hopefully soon to be replaced with a FT, SOB. The visors and fans were attached to the OH console with wood screws. Even though it had 5/8" plywood above the fascia, the screws were constantly coming loose and eventually stripped. I drilled the holes to accept wood nuts and re-attached those items with machine screws. That was 5 years ago and I haven't had to touch them since.

If the problem is screws will no hold in the wood the quick way to fix is get some wooden kitchen matches, take off the match head, cover the stick parts with glue and stick it in the hole-may need 2 or 3 but fill the hole . Wait for the glue to dry and screw it all back together.

If you want a really permanent fix drill through hole and use a t-nut made for wood sometimes referred to as furniture t-nuts
they make small ones for # 8 and #10 machine screws

Bose should have replacement parts available for the brackets and would cost less than a sound bar.  They also sell excellent sound bars with virtual surround sound and built in adaptive tuning to the room where hey are installed.

Note - I work for Bose in the Finance department; not the product side of things.

I prefer using hardwood toothpicks vs soft pine matches.

I took the old Bose speakers down and hooked up a Bose Sound Bar on the passenger side and
a 9" monitor for the rear view camera on the drivers side.
  Works fine for us.

Does the bar work on 12v? Can it tie into another one on the left if needed?

No the sound bar is 120v.
It is plugged into the optical cable port on the TV and there is only one port on my Sony TV

What model TV is that? We searched to find one which would cover most of the space, (no luck) we settled for a 32 Smart TV which leaves a gap on each side, would like to change it out. Thanks, Paul

Do you remember what model TV you're using. We replaced ours with a TCL 32 but does not fill the space between cabinets as well as yours. I looked for a TV that would fill better, but could not find one.  Thanks, Paul

We put a Vizio sound bar inside the TV cabinet on our 2003 and put the wireless subwoofer where the Bose one was.    I had to add a remote ir sensor since the sound bar is hidden behind the TV.
