A couple of newbie questions:
1. Assume only 1 D2 is required? Does it make sense to carry more than 1 spare?
2. Price range is pretty broad...from $57 (https://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/bendix--800361/governor-d2-p-174-800361).... to $10.52. (https://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/s-and-s-truck-parts-s-6106/air-governor-d2-p-sst-s6106)
What's the difference and does it matter?
Thanks
Mine was about 12 bucks, went into truck parts place and said I needed a D2 and he reached under the counter and grabbed one. So I guess it's a common failure part.
I have been using $11.00 reman units for years on my cranes. Always carried one spare on the trucks and several in my shop so I could go buy more at my convenience. I have only had one governor fail on a motorhome and that was my'81. The small line from the tank that gives the signal to start bypassing the air compressor would put moisture in the governor on my trucks. They did not have the good dryer my coach has.
Carry one spare d2
I just bought a spare after fretting about it . If it fails you dont move . Seems like a no brainer to have a 20$ part. The new one also upped my operating pressure and stuff works better. Like Brakes.
Easy to get , no reason to carry 2 IMHO.
Only one. Since they are the same as on the OTR trucks, I would be surprised if you could go very far without finding a parts house with one in stock. This is not a part unique to Foretravel or even motorhomes.
I carry a used on for a spare. I replace mine every 5 years. I use one that comes on at 100 off at 130 mainly it makes airing up tires quicker. They do make adjustable ones as well.
They are all adjustable as far as I know. You can change the cut in, cut out but the 30 psi difference remains the same.
