Title: Donaldson/Wix Primary bowl for "twist-&-drain" filters
Post by: krush on May 07, 2019, 11:56:32 pm
Anybody switch over from the racor style primary filter/bowls to the Donaldson twist and drain?  I think Napa/Wix also sell the same style.

P569758 Donaldson Original that goes on the twist and drain filters, like P553202. (Wix WF10014 )

I'm not a fan of the racor bowls, and don't really see the need for a bowl in normal use...but of course if I remove my bowl, I'll wish I had it!

It's on my coach as we speak. I also use the bowl, depending on which filter is cheapest at the time.

I am the opposite.

I really like the clear bowl-- allows a very quick visual check of fuel contamination.

With the solid filter, only way to know is to crawl in and take a sample.

I swapped the Racor  out due to lack of parts.  I know that they work great but can not afford  to be DOR due to air intrusion from any of the seals, gaskets, bowl .  Fewer seals, fewer failure points. IMHO.

Sorry, I was just looking at the filter itself.  Did not realize the clear bowl would be fit to it.

I use the WIX twist & drain filter.  I used to have a glass bowl type, but the idea of having that glass container with the possibility of it breaking just didn't set well with me.  It doesn't take much time to check the drain for water and to me the metal filter  is a lot safer.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

I agree regarding the gaskets and leaks. I got away from them on boats too. Too many sill gaskets and seals that are a pain. And, RACORs are expensive and not available everywhere....and they smell horrible!
