Post by: GleamB on May 08, 2019, 12:27:07 pm
I purchased gasket at FOT yesterday to r/r sweep over slide. The "bulb" part of the gasket looks too big..????
How do I go about removing and repacing the gasket??

I used some spray dish soap solution to make it slip into the groove better.

I ordered the same yesterday, being shipped to my location in SD.  I may try the 303 UV protectant spray I have on hand, or some Windex to remove the old and install the new.

Guess I need to be more specific...,
How fo I remove the existing gasket? Do I have to undscrew the track that holds it ?
HOW do I install the new gasket?
Do I "stuff it in"? with a putty knife?
I don't think I can "feed" it into the track and PULL it the entire length?

Glenn, you don't need to worry about how you remove it. Just start from one side and start pulling it off.
I have used a plastic putty knife to install a new one and also soapy water to slide the material through the chanel. I leave about a foot longer gasket than whatever slide I replace.

on mine the tail end of the track was removable.. probably 10".. once you get it started you pull on the rubber to stretch it a little and the lip will shrink as you stretch it.. then it slides in pretty easily.. old one slid off for me

I did mine today on the bedroom slide.  To remove the old one, just grab one end of the old squeegee  with pliers and pull outward at an angle.  It pulls the "bead" out of the groove very easily.

To put the new one it, do not attempt to slide it in from the end of the track.  Instead use a dull putty knife, or paint stirrer stick, or even a plastic or silicone spatula from the kitchen, and "stuff" the bead into the groove.  The bead of foam collapses easily and it stuffs in pretty easily.  You can spray some water or Windex or similar into the groove first to help it go in a bit easier.

For future search engine ease:
slide gasket
slide sweep
slide squeegee
slide scraper

Once you get it started and a foot or so installed you can pull on the sweep to stretch it a bit and push it into the channel.  When you release the tension is will contract back the channel. Just take your time.
