What is the deal with the Onan Hybrid gensets? They appear in 2010 thru 2012 ForeTravel Motor homes? I am hearing they are a dismal failure and the factory removed them. Should I consider buying a used ForeTravel with this system? Thank You.
Just do a forum search and decide if you want to go through what Brad had to before they changed out his system.
Where it me, I would steer clear of that system. When it fails is lots O' $$$$$
If there is a coach that you really want with one of these hybrid systems adjust your offer enough to replace it and let the seller know what your offer is based on. The same with tires and batteries. The seller probably knows that they have been a problem. Stick to your price and be prepared to walk away. There are some very nice 2010 pre-DEF Phenixes out there to consider.
I would teen clear or price in a total replacement at FT
Been down that bumpy road . If you find the coach of your dreams with that gen set , I'd have it changed out before I bought it . It is going to fail , only question is when . Mine preformed well till it failed , so your talking in the $$$$ range can't print it and that is that . Now have the 12.5 system that has a very good track record . Cummins was honorable about the whole thing . Foretravel did a good job of the change out but ,--don't feel good with how Foretravel handled the money part of it . Brad Metzger.
I also would stay away from that system--or find out the cost to replace it and lower the price by that amount. It sounds as if it's a wonderful idea that's poorly executed, and I've read only bad things about it in actual operation.
Thank for the input. I have only heard bad things about the system. I think the fact that nobody is using it anymore tells a lot.
