I have a Taytronics 1500 that has quit working. I know some of you have changed them to a different inverter, and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a direct replacement. It would be nice to be able to use the same remote wiring for sure. Thanks

I did see that, and I haven't spoken with them, but I kind of thought that might be pretty expensive for one that may be as old as mine. I will contact them though and find out more about it.

it sounds like you are trying to keep things simple and come up with a direct replacement for the old TayTronics. I understand that desire, but I would encourage you to think about a upgrade to a more modern unit. The advantages of doing the upgrade may outweigh the effort involved in making the change. There may be a new inverter available on the market that would be a simple swap, fit in the same space, and hook up to the same control panel you have now. I don't know. You need to talk to a expert who can advise you on what would best meet your needs.
I recommend you give Randy a call at Best Converter. I called him several times right after we purchased our coach. We had the same TayTronics 1500 inverter and a separate battery charger/converter. Randy was able to answer all my questions about how to modernize our system. He is not pushy, and will not try to sell you stuff you don't need. I'll bet he can tell you if any modern inverter would interface with your existing control panel. If no such thing exists, he will probably be able to offer a alternative solution for your consideration.

A full sine wave inverter with a battery temp management system incorporated would be a very noticeable improvement

Get a high-quality pure sine wave 2,000 watt inverter that draws less than 25 watts while under no load.
Harold, there are modified sine wave and Square sine wave, but X2 on what Tim said, the pure sine wave is same as comes off pedestal and you won't have any problems with any thing you hook to it as long as it is within power limit of inverter

Was going to put this on my Freedom 458 post but just as good here.Did what Roger said and researched,Randy at best inverter
does not carry Magnum because he has had trouble with them,he reccomends Samlex,the Samlex normal draw is 30 watts but
has a power saver mode that is only 8 watts,sounds like a plus there.Looks like I'll be deciding on one of the 3,a Victron,Samlex or
a Magnum.They are all about the same price give or take a little.Victron has the dongle device to use a cell phone to monitor.
Having used the OEM inverter since we purchased the coach, the disadvantages are, it draws more idle watts, you can't run a laser printer from it and the microwave is much slower. Other than that, it's working great. I do have an old Trace inverter that has a switchable sensing circuit that can detect when something is turned on a then turn on the inverter. It's only 1500 watts so have not installed it. It worked great in our bus conversion.

Spend the money now or spend it later for a new sine wave inverter/charger. I would choose from selection at Xantrex, Magnum, or Victron from donrowe.com .

The xantrex! Magnum and .outback all mention conformal circuit boards for humid uses.(boats?)
The Magnums me-rc panel has in its preloaded battery type settings both types of agm's.
The others seem to need to be custom set for Lifeline AGM's.
The samlex does have a built in BTMS and a BMS and outsources you to another companies auto gen start.
I think the xantrex, magnum and outback seem to be USA made if that is important to anyone.
I replaced my Taytronic with a Samlex 1500 watt.

I ended up purchasing the used Taytronics 1500 from Colaw RV. All is back to normal.
Just ordered a Magnum hybrid inverter/charger,the arc control and the shunt battery monitor from Allen at Bay Marine,they matched
the Amazon price and were very helpful,think the hybrid will help when in the Yukon on that 15 amp service.
Harold, you have some time to figure out what to do when the used Taytronics fails. Sooner than later. Good to know what you want to do when you have to, maybe before.

Think that is the part with the shunt the BMK,it's the battery monitor system.
Two parts. BMS and btms. Am I wrong? I have both pieces.
Think I'll hook up what I got and go from there,it will be more info about battery then I have now.Were not big boondockers or

John, I think what Bob is referring to is the battery temp monitor. The Magnum comes with the battery temp sensor and wiring.
Installing a Magnum Hybrid or Victron Multiplus Inverter.
When you get this inverter/charger please read the install instruction carefully. The charger is likely bigger than the one you have and with a hybrid or. Multiplus inverter you can pull more battery amps and output more 120v current.
If your battery to inverter cables are more then 5 ft. (this is battery to common plus post behind the white panel in many coaches and then to the inverter) you need 2 4/0 cables. Both plus and minus. You probably have a single 3/0 cable now. This is a good time to upgrade your battery wiring too. Each battery wired to + and - bus bars (500 amp capacity), a switch on at least the positive side, a neg side switch is handy too, your shunt goes after the neg bus bar or switch. A BlueSea ignition proof fuse after the + switch (400 amp) is a good idea. Then two 4/0 cables to the plus and minus common posts.
Make sure your AC input circuit breaker and wiring from the primary panel is adequate. Probably is not if you want to pass through the full capacity possible. The output side too as it has to carry both the pass through current plus what ever boost you can get from the inverter to the seconday inverter panel. Likely that the OEM wiring is a bit small for this. And it is now common to run this output through a small circuit breaker box near the inverter with an appropriate circuit breaker for that load.
If you have two OEM transfer switches and are on gen or landline the second ATS switches the inverter circuits to the gen or landline so the internal inverter transfer switch and the hybrid boost will do nothing. It is passing 120v through the internal ATS which is isolated from the inverter circuits by the OEM transfer switch. The OEM transfer switch needs to get bypassed and disconnected so that land line or gen plus any boost power goes through the Inverter's ATS directly to the inverter circuit sub panel.
For those of us with a Victron Multiplus the same pass through wiring should be done, and the same 12v wiring applies.
It is not quite a drop in replacement.

original owner,the 458 is about 60 lbs,the Magnum a little less.
John, the BTS (battery temperature sensor, I dislike abbreviations) is included with the Magnum hybrid. It is a cabled temperature sensor that plugs into the yellow port on the inverter/charger to regulate charger with various temps.
