Title: Door Slammed Open
Post by: jor on June 06, 2019, 12:25:18 pm
I opened the entry door at a fuel stop on a very windy day. I thought I was prepared but the door ripped out of my grasp and slammed hard against its stop almost ejecting me from the rig. The pos-a-loc door bracket was partially torn away with the screws stripped out and the bracket deformed. This event was much like TulsaTrent experienced awhile back. Anyhow, I was able to put in larger screws and add one in the deformed area which sucked it right up to the door frame surface. Admonition: Hang on to that baby on those windy days!

While I was at it I loosened the striker pin and cleaned and lubricated the surface behind the washers. The door hadn't been closing correctly but now closes with a light touch as it should.

Does your door lock in the open position?  Mine never has since I bought it. The pin/mechanism at the top is messed up.

I read I can get all new components for a fair price from the manufacturer.

Had a similar thing happen, contacted the manufacturer, here is their reply.

We no longer manufacture the pos-a-locs, however, we do have a replacement part. The replacement is a door check style hold open mechanism and will not require the cable to operate. Part #001-454

I attached the pic.

Thanks for that information!  I actually think the door check may be better in day to day life, haven't to pull the handle to close the door every time it's pushed open all the way sounds annoying.

FYI to all, here's the link (notice posi-lock is "obsolete"...probably for reason I mention above): Hold Open Mechanisms - PTL Engineering (http://ptlengineering.com/hold-open-mechanisms/)

Mine still works. I did adjust the amount of slack from the locked position to release by installing a longer set screw (photo).

That's interesting information on obsolescence. Nice to know there is a replacement part.

How do you release the door with this deal?
