Title: Litterbox Room
Post by: coastalbuilder on July 06, 2019, 09:03:39 am
We have a Bengal cat (Cyrus) that travels pretty well.  After he gets over his intial motion sickness...

In my Winnebago renovation, I gutted the hall area and did a custom cabinet with a carbon filter, fan, speed controller, etc.  I have pictures of that if anyone wants them.  So we when we switched over to the FT I was worried about what I could do.  I HATE litterbox smell and walking on litter.

So I redid the area under the wardrobe.  I can always cover the pet door hole by putting a full-length mirror on the door if we sell or get rid of the beast.  I'll try to give a few more details for anyone that needs them and I have a couple more modifications to make but here are a number of pictures to tell the story.  In the Winnie, I sucked through the filter in the cabinet area.  I had a lot more room in that one.  In this one, I wanted all the room in the cabinet so I am blowing out through the carbon filter here.  It will shorten it's life some as there is not a prefilter on the inside.

Not being as talented, and being lazy, we switched to the Breeze litter system. There is a bit of odor for a few minutes after she uses the litter box, then nothing. Box is out in the open, between the shower and bedroom door. Other than sweeping up pellets and replacing the pad there is little to do. Yes, we scoop it out once a day or so. Since Missy always wets in the same place we just turn the pad around after a week, and then replace it after the next week. The pellets are replaced monthly.

If we still had our cat, I would install a pet door in the left side of the entry stair and give access to the cargo hold, where it would be fairly easy to place a cat litter box. Such an arrangement would have the added bonus of adding hunting territory for the mouse mangler.

We took the trash compactor out made a privacy curtain, box with "Scoon" litter (best we've ever used). Use doggie bags to pick up the poopee's.

Anyway.....

I LOVE THIS! I have been wanting to put the litter box in the closet for some time, but not knowing what's under the the two raised areas have been causing me to push back that option... that and the fact that hubby doesn't want a hole in the door. Bigger mirror would solve that problem. Guess I need to do some digging....

For travelling in our FT we have now changed the regular cat litter over to SKOON.. It is the most amazing cat litter made out of diamataceous earth.  Lasts 2 weeks or more, no smell and no more stepping on cat litter.  Poops have to be taken out daily as for a dog (poop bags) but the rest melts in the litter.  It is more expensive but well worth the money.  You can only buy it online, I have not seen it anywhere in a store.

All I can say is your area is a lot cleaner than mine....  need to get the vaccume out and get busy cleaning down there...
Since I have a 120 lb german shedder that won't work for me, but I would like to make a place for him, guess he will have to stick with a space under the table. On the road he likes to sit by my wife looking out the front till he gets bored and then lays down and goes to sleep. That dog loves to travel....

This is not a good idea to cut a hole into the basement area.  There are reasons mfgs do not allow a cutout like this into the basement area.  For safety concerns in the event of a fire I hope no one does this.

We say your post here and decided to give it a try... It's as good as you say! A bit of a pain for a full-timer to order, but well worth the effort. Thank you!!

I sold two  unihomes new  with floor holes for pets to be able to walk down a ramp into the basement. Ramps down to the basement floor and sidewall ramps so the old pet(s) could get up to the dash.
