Title: Simple Dash AC Recharge
Post by: floridarandy on July 25, 2019, 10:34:11 pm
Helped a friend recharge his AC on his diesel F250. using this

A/C Pro Ultra Synthetic R-134 Refrigerant - Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/ip/A-C-Pro-Ultra-Synthetic-R-134-Refrigerant/353326131)

Can I use this to recharge my dash AC?  Uses low pressure port.  Where is this port on my 2000 U 270?

Would it make sense to use this instead?

A/C Pro High Mileage Auto Air Conditioner Refrigerant, 134A, 12oz - Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/ip/A-C-Pro-High-Mileage-Auto-Air-Conditioner-Refrigerant-134A-12oz/55351430)

If you think you may have a leak that will help you find them -- May need a uv light to help locate die--if bad leak you will see the die without light. personally I like using something with a gauge so I can tell how much pressure I have in system

Sure! I have a slow leak and add some 134 before each trip. The right way to do it is with regular A/C gauges but the Walmart deal you show will work fine. You can also buy a separate gauge like this one. (A/C Recharge) (https://www.amazon.com/FJC-6036-R134a-U-Charge-Gauge/dp/B00620PXMW/ref=sr_1_17?crid=1I9XJH81YX4IE&keywords=a%2Fc+gauge+kit&qid=1564147637&s=gateway&sprefix=a%2Fc+gauge%2Caps%2C1340&sr=8-17)). Then you can just buy a few cans of refrigerant. All I do is take the temp of the air at the vent and add refrigerant until it's blowing nice and cold. Here's a photo of the low (green) and high (red) ports on a 97 8.3 engine.

I used to charge AC all the time and still have all the AC guage sets out in the shop. I am now long retired but I have a 2000 Ford F250 that has a small AC leak, stopped at Walmart on a trip and bought the same recharge outfit at Walmart that you did. Worked great and extremely handy. Then I discovered that it will also use the small cans of 134 which are much cheaper, so I just keep it in the truck and use as necessary. Just the .02 from an OLD geiser, take it for what it's worth  ;)

I personally think it doesn't make sense to pay the higher prices for cans of "special" R134a (the cans for high-mileage vehicles or with other added ingredients). Your system will function well with plain refrigerant if properly charged so there is no reason to waste money.

Recharge was easy.  Hose and gauge are reusable so I'll keep an extra bottle on hand as RevRick suggests.  Used the "regular" stuff, not high mileage.

For you slow leakers out there, next time try RED ANGEL leak stop, can get on Amazon, much better then the Walmart stop leak.
