Title: Turbo Blanket
Post by: pibutler on August 15, 2019, 10:36:07 pm
I wanted to get some thoughts on the pros and cons of getting a Turbo Blanket for my 400ISL. My goal is to keep the engine area cooler - hence bedroom as well.

In what I have read - Pros: it appears they can lower the engine compartment temperature, keep the hot side of the turbo hot and keep the cool side cool, spool up quicker and provide more pressure and boost sooner. Keep the turbo from cooling down too quickly creating a more even temperature range.

Cons: not sure if it shortens the life of the turbo bearing and other internally lubricated parts.

Does anybody on the forum use one?

We use them on our entire fleet of Fire Trucks (Cat. Cummins, Detroit) - but not sure if the RV/Coach market uses them. and just because our entire fleet of over 300 rigs - doesn't mean that I would consider it a must for my coach. Just curious on thoughts.

I would also be curious to what size you need. I am considering the exact same changes on my ISL.

Choose your supplier, email them (ebay message) and give them your engine and they will sell you the correct size. They do hundreds of turbo blankets/covers/wrap.
