Title: HWH box fix.
Post by: George and Steph on August 22, 2019, 08:53:18 pm
We had our appointment with HWH today.  I was impressed with both how we were treated personally and the technical work they completed.

We had a problem with auto leveling first about 6 weeks ago..  It would lower as designed but more rapidly than required with the first major adjustment at the half hour check.  Not leaks but adjustment.  By the second day it would have bottomed out but the compressor cycled without affect and the no go light came on.

I started using the manual leveling method which worked at first but then the light stayed on and it would attempt to adjust itself on its own.  It stayed level and then two days ago it did not want to turn off at first and needed to go through a brake on brake off re-push.

I had discussed the first part of this at Cummins Coach Care in Spokane and they thought it was probably the box and since I had an appointment with HWH to let them check it out.  On the way we went to Minot for FMCA.  Thought I might be able to get it done there but to late to make the list.  When I spoke with Allison at the shop she told me they can often fix the issue at the shop for much less than a rebuilt box.

They let me watch as they checked the box.  The ground was not as tight as it should have been.  Inside the communication wire had broken loose and a relay looked darker than normal.  The tech said he had seen this before and took it to their shop and told us to grab breakfast and come back.  When we returned, he had completed the repair and done a bench test and reinstalled the box.  Then he completed a bag test and we were done.  Total cost $158.  I had been advised it would run as high as a coach buck for a rebuild.  Glad they were on the way home and I had made the appointment well in advance.  They are really booked right now.  Their shop rate is $90.

My plan is to go to JC Refrigeration and then to HWH when we leave out in late September.

Where was the HWH location you went to for repair?

When Forum members say they "went to HWH" they usually mean they went to the HWH corporate home location in Moscow, Iowa.  Diagnostic and repair services are available there by appointment.

Peter,

FYI, I was thumbing through the links at the HWH web site, and noticed that HWH does maintain a list of "Master Service Centers" - a fact of which I was not aware.  These are shops authorized to do warranty work on HWH equipment.  If you are having trouble with your leveling system and one of these service centers is nearby, you might see if they can be of assistance.

Didn't know that! Turns out there's one in San Diego.

Glad you had such a great experience.  We have service booked at HWH in 2 weeks.  A complete check over and fixing an issue with the slide sync cylinder.  Getting new parts is a challenge, but they said they can probably rebuild it.  Not only will it be nice to have our slide back, I'm looking forward to the peace of mind knowing all systems are go.
