What is a good cross to metric for a 9R-22.5?
It would be a 9.00x22.5 tire
Look at 255/80/22.5 or a 255/70/22.5. Rim width is important.
255/80R22.5 is a good substitution/slight upgrade. OK on 6.75" or 7.5" wheels.
Many of us have upgraded from 9R22.5 to the Michelin 255's-- so this is from experience, not just a chart.
I replaced our 9R22.5's with 265/75R22.5's.
Are you having trouble finding the 9R ? I like that size for the early light coaches.
Yep 9R's are getting hard to find and the dealers want a bunch for them.
Probably not going to get any better, as manfactures trim down the number of tire sizes available at a reasonable cost.. ideal vs economics gets skewed pretty quickly, and then throw in again the local available factor.
Simple tire shows them .
I don't understand why the 9R size is stiil around. Does it offer any advantages over the newer metric size?
I believe it was one of the first radial truck size . Many early trucks and heavy RV OE size, It is about 80% tall/39in +-, and narrow for the 6.5- 8 in wheels.
Perfect for my Bus.
But does it have any advantages over a 255/80 size?
Supply. No body makes the 255/80/22.5 Michelin?
Available, available, available. If you have a roadside tire issue your not going to be able to wait for someone to source a tire, you are getting towed to a safe place, vs a tire service doing a roadside swap. If you have a place to store a spare it's a different story. Or you may or may not be able to limp in with a different size. Optimum vs compromise, your roll of the dice.
Yes, the 255/80R22.5 is a Michelin only size.
