Title: Electrical Problem
Post by: leejrfla on September 16, 2019, 06:43:04 am
Hello!  I have a question in my 93 U300 there is one breaker that immediately trips when you flip it on.  I had my RV tech check it out and the wires go into the manual transfer switch.  He isolated the wire removed the hot wire from the wiring block inside the transfer switch and the breaker then stays on. All the electrical outlets appliances etc work fine and always have.  The tech seems to think that when you flip the breaker on its overloading the circuit like double power to it I am guessing power through the inverter and power from the shore power?  Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Woodie

Woodie,

1. This would lead me to think that you have a failure in the transfer switch causing a fault.
2. I don't understand what you are trying to explain, but if you have power from both the shore and inverter tied together it will cause something to let the smoke out.
Which breaker are you flipping on? Shore pedestal or one in your coach breaker panel

What breaker is tripping? If you have shore power, the inverter should not be functional. Do you have your coach schematic? We have almost the exact same coach.

Circuit breakers protect downstream wiring.  Too much potential coming in won't make any difference until you have a load downstream that will pull more amps than the CB is rated.  I have replaced two of the skinny CB on my coach because the were tripping for no reason. They can wear (age) out.

from what you describe, maybe a transfer switch.

Mike its breaker #5 on the coach electrical panel on the bed pedestal.

Roger regarding the transfer switch you are referring to the manual one right?

Thanks

Pierce Yes I have the schematic.

Woodie, I am not sure what you have in your coach for a transfer switch, surely different from mine.

If the circuit breaker is on the post and it trips when the manual transfer switch is actuated then it could be the transfer switch or something downstream..

Electrical trouble shooting boils down to isolating one switch/variable at a time.

You might have a bad breaker.
