Title: Generator oil API class
Post by: Lt403 on September 29, 2019, 09:51:07 pm
Good evening everyone,
I am going to change the oil in my generator and would like to know what API to use.
The CF and CD ratings are obsolete according to the API website and its what's listed in the power tech manual.
My choices are API rating CH, CI, CJ, and CK.
Are any of these synthetic?
Can I use synthetic in the generator?

Thanks Frank

Been using Amsoil in mine for past 3 years, just changed it,used the Signature series 15w40,PM me for info, would cost $10 for
6 months for a discount and free shipping.

any of those API ratings are fine, I've been using Delo 400 / CK since the CK rating came out.
Dino vs Synthetic......... personal choice

Most of us use the chassis engine oil for simplicity.

For both engine and generator the correct new oil designation is CK.

Most popular are Shell Rotella T 15-40 and Delo 400 15-40. Though there are many other good choices.

This does not apply to the Detroit Diesel 6V92's which take Delo 100 straight weight or to the newer coaches with DEF.
