Title: Refrigerator vent repainted by Xtreme
Post by: George Hatfield on October 10, 2019, 06:49:32 pm
Our year 2000 coach has a gel coat finish with painted graphics which date from 2011.  That work along with a headlight conversion was done by Xtreme.  The graphics have held up well, but the refrigerator vent, which was only partially painted had taken on a distinctly yellow tint due probably to sun exposure.  I had planned to buy a new grill from Foretravel and just paint it white, but there were two problems with that idea.  First, FT only has replacement grills that are not paintable (according to Greg at Xtreme); second, Pat thought just painting it white was a really bad idea.    So I talked to Greg and he agreed to paint a new grill (which they had).  They had to have the coach to match up the paint stripes (i.e., I could not have just sent them the grill to paint).  They did a great job.  Small change, but big difference.

I should add that it was really nice to visit with James and Jennifer Stallings as well as the others at Xtreme.  Such nice people.

We did the same a few years back. Ours also became very brittle once it turned yellow. I bought the vent thinking I would paint it myself but better judgement got the upper hand. We were at Extreme getting some other things including the headlights done and they did the vent job at that time.

Painted mine with this can of paint from Walmart. Dead match. did it several years ago, still looks fine. Have even done minor repairs on the fiberglass with this rattle can, blends right in when buffed.
Painted lots of them refer covers over the years, with all different kinds of paint.Never an issue.
Another trick, wipe it down with lacquer thinner. It will turn white again.
Don't know why they say they can't paint them. Strange.
Cheers Chris

Believe it or not, if you wipe them down with lacquer thinner, they come back white.Done it a bazzilion times.

Can't believe the original style/size is not available. Strange

Though not the side vent, when I removed my roof vent to route the solar wire, it fell apart.  I replaced it with this, a year ago.  Worked out terrific.

Just had my FT repainted at Xtreme, picked it up last week.  They replaced and painted the side fridge vent but the roof vent they replaced but could not paint due to the type of plastic.
