Title: Sharkbites
Post by: kpbowser on October 12, 2019, 05:05:32 pm
How well does the sharkbites work on the quest piping in the early 90's GV's. The outside of the quest is the same size as per.

I have used them on several projects on our coach.  They seal just fine on the original grey water pipes.

I have used, and they worked fine, even though they do not reccomend..  The grey pipe is just slightly smaller and so I now have used the following until I have time and energy to replace with pex.

I do all RV repairs with "Flare it" pex fittings, been using them 25 + years, never an issue. Cheaper, and positive locking

They work perfectly fine on the grey pipe.

Jack, that is what I recommend as well when going from poly to PEX!  Yes, I have had good results with using the regular Sharkbite, but why take the chance.  Just my opinion as well.

If you have the older grey pipe, there are small sleeves you can purchase at Home Depot to add rigidity to the pipe and then you can use standard pex fittings with a pex tool.  I have installed sharkbite fittings in a ceiling on copper and then they failed, why take the chance.

I will use the conversion then regular shark bites. It will take a little extra work but better than a leak since had to take sink out to get to leaking valve for ice maker. Am doing away with ice maker since it is 28 years old but still works.
