Title: Admittance Valve, black, grey vent, slow drain, odor
Post by: Jack Lewis on October 27, 2019, 05:42:50 pm
Am I missing any other vent air valves?  My bathroom sink and shower drain seemed slow to drain and gurgle, no hair or other known blockage.  I also had tank odor in the kitchen.

Now after replacing these valves they are draining freely.  Causing the odors in the kitchen, that valve was totally deteriorating and leaking. It is now new

I replaced the following vents in the pictures, one next to the bathroom sink and to the right of removed drawers on pass side which is between the kitchen and bathroom sink, to the right of the drawers, serves the bathroom sink.

The forth picture is the valve under, and to the right, of the kitchen sink.  It appears it may be too low, it was wet inside on the seal, the seal was the only one found deteriorated.  I also now plan to raise it approx. 6 inches.

Another valve replaced is in the picture with all the vertical pipes on the drivers side. (combo washer/dryer removed as well as side panel removed)  I am thinking maybe a forth valve was on the back wall and replaced when it was plumbed for the all in one washer/dryer.

The drivers vent appears to now be the only valve serving both the shower and the washing machine drain.  I will continue to monitor this admittance valve, and posible replace it with the following higher capacity Studor Mini Vent than the ones I used for replacement.

Studor 20341 Mini-Vent with PVC Adapter 1 1/2-Inch or 2-Inch Connection Studor 20341 Mini-Vent with PVC Adapter 1 1/2-Inch or 2-Inch Connection:... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FQEX4UI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ov9TDbP1H9W7S)

Four vertical pipe photo: pipe to right is the combined gray and black vent that goes up thru the roof.  At the bottom it is connected to shower and washing machine drains, also the vent system of pipes to the left are attached.

The rv originally came plumbed for combined washer/dryer from factory.  Foretravel in 2004 for previous owner installed stacked washer dryer creating a new attachment of a washer drain, ptrap, to the bottom of the vent pipe that is to the right in the picture.  In 2017 I went back to new combo washer/dryer to regain storage above washer.

It appears I have found the only three vent valves on my 1997 U295.  Do you know of another (especially looking for another for the shower)?

On my coach, a 40' tag U320, one AAV is hidden up behind the bath sink bowel. Pulling out top drawer next to it gives "some" access.  The kitchen sink # 2 AAV I can see by pulling some of the kitchen drawers out and looking behind.  In the clothes hamper immediately behind the "turbo turd" toilet is #3 AAV,  for the shower.

Behind the washer are two.

5 total AAVs on our coach. (none are for the black tank)

Thank you Dan, with your help I found the third valve, the valve for the kitchen sink, hidden behind the reverse osmosis system, and the one causing the odor.

Now I am just asking if anyone knows where a forth valve might be for the shower?

If anyone has a picture of the orig vent plumbing (the picture with the four vertical  pipes) that would be most appreciated.

Mine was changed when prev owner replumbed for the stacked washer dryer, adding the white abs, barely seen in the picture,  the back wall now only has the drain and p trap for the washer dryer.

Jack, In our coach I had vents at the Kitchen sink, Bathroom vanity, Washer dryer, And one behind the commode under the triangular linen closet floor. (that one in the linen closet was the shower vent)

I thought the valves were bad in ours because of occasional odor.  But every one go them that I checked the rubber was still soft and they worked fine.  When I removed toilet to replace it I found the problem being the wax seal was not making contact all the way around the drain hole.  Have not had any odor since replacing commode.

I had this same problem.  Wife was ready to sell coach.  I replaced all the AAV.

Turned out, that who ever installed toilet slid it back after setting it down on wax ring.  The ring was torn and did not come close to sealing.

My odor in my rv was definitely from the deteriorating, wet plumbing air valve (AAV) in the kitchen.

A side note, since the stud hole placement is different,  last year when replacing the old Microphor toilet with the Dometic 320, this accessory definitely made the install easy, more stable, and safe from mistakes causing odor.
