Title: Winterizing Splendide & domestic fridge
Post by: Lt403 on November 05, 2019, 07:47:59 am
Good morning everyone,
We have a Splendide washer dryer and a Samsung residential refrigerator with ice maker.
After reading the manuals I find no information on winterizing any of these two appliances.
Our coach will be stored in an  indoor unheated storage facility with 30 A of electric in Brunswick GA.
We plan on leaving the Aquahot running on electric and using the furnace in all 3 zones to heat the living areas and basement.

1- do I have enough electricity to run the Aquahot to heat 3 zones on 30 Amps?

2- do I need to winterize the coach (drain water tank and then use RV antifreeze in waterlines) if I have enough electricity to heat the coach and basement?

3- if I do have to winterize, I think I would have to run the antifreeze through the cold and hot water lines of the washer dryer and the drain hose. Also through the waterline to the icemaker until I get pink ice.

Thank you for any comments and suggestions!

You have enough electricity to run the AH. The question will be how cold does it get in the indoor storage and how reliable is their power. The electric side of the AH can only do so much with 3 zones. If the storage allows for some exhaust you could put the diesel on also and it would only come on if needed. The electric thermostat is set for 10 deg. higher than the diesel.

If your keeping it in Miami, there should be no worries. Rare to get a hard frost or freeze.
But running antifreeze thru the water should take care of everything. Run the ice maker with the antifreeze solution in as well as the washer on a short cycle to get antifreeze thru the unit. But here in Texas I have no worries about it.

I don't have a washer /dryer so someone else will have to speak to that process.  Same with the refrig.  I think blowing it out and removing the water filter in the refrig would be sufficient. If you have to use pink antifreeze in it it would be OK.  First couple batches of ice might taste odd.  There should be a way to drain these appliances.

If you do winterize with RV antifreeze then there is no need to heat unless you want to.  Depending on electric rates it can cost $3-5 per day.  Our coach sits in the barn until we leave.  It has been as cold as -30°.  It works.

The AH on 30 amps will work OK.  Just set your thermostat tp 40 or 45° in the LR and in the wet bay.  Probably don't need to heat the BR.  I turn on the AH electric about a week before we leave in the winter with the LR set to 45.  No water in the system so wet bay, bathroom and bedroom are off.  Even at 10 degrees outside it keeps up.  The basement bay next to the AH stays nice and warm too.  The day before the diesel comes on, temp settings go up, BR heat is on.  Engine preheat is on overnight.  We leave in the morning with a near 70° coach.  Two day to warm.

It really depends on the indoor facility and how it's structured AND insulated.

TBH, even living in Texas, since we only had 3-sides-covered storage we winterized with pink antifreeze every year.  Too risky for the AquaHot and Splendide not to do so.  Having been through ice storms where there was no power for days, I don't recommend relying on electricity to keep your coach from freezing.

I made sure to run the Splendide until I actually saw pink antifreeze in the drum on both temperatures.  Sometimes it took a second fill.

Also, if you have a VacuFlush toilet, be sure to run a few flushes of pink through it to winterize its systems as well.
