Been putting off this little item that came with the coach. The hole was where the original tv antenna was, the PO added a dish and did a crappy job of sealing the roof (now repaired & water-tite) and it sure leaked, judging from the rot in the cover! Question is anyone have a clue what I should try to get the stain off? I've tried Isopropyl alcohol and 'Oxi Clean to no avail. It's a bearcat to work on, but I'm sick of looking at it! :headwall: Thanks for any suggestions.
When my roof units leaked and left stains I used Resolve spray on carpet cleaner and the upholstery attachment on my Russell shampooer.
Spray, let sit, upholstery attachment and repeat.
Mike,
We used this product Folex stain remover. We had a similar stain by the air conditioner. It works great! I bought it at Ace Hardware. I've seen at the Big Box Stores also. It works like magic. You can instantly see the stain disappear.
You might try multiple applications of hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle, letting it thoroughly dry between them.
I'll try that, we've got a bottle on board. Wonder if it would work if I just used a toothbrush to scrub it in?
This product worked good for me.

Sorry the owner between us removed the antenna and did such a poor job of sealing the roof. But, living in AZ as he did, rain was probably not a big issue for him.
If using a toothbrush (never your own) be careful of changing the texture of the ozite. Easy to snag and change the texture.
You have received several good suggestions on chemicals. Experiment with each before getting "rough" with anything that would change the texture of the material.
Ya, I'll try working the hole area that will be hidden by the wood cover. I super-glued the broken area and filled the rotten areas with epoxy. I'll rub some matching wood finish in and (hopefully) quit having a sore neck looking up! ^.^d
Most important is to verify that the leak has been properly sealed from above!
If trying to remove the stain doesn't work, you can staple/glue some ozite over luan in a shape that will blend in with other ceiling items.
I use a upholster cleaning machine, like a carpet cleaner. Works well.
I'm with John. Stocked Folex at my Ace store. Works awesome! Told customers if they did not like it money back. Never gave back a dime.
Good subject. I've got an old stain from a previous owner by the Kool o matic vent. I'll give the Folex a try when I get back to the coach work.

Mike, first just spray it on and see what happens. You can also use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. Repetition is key.
Resolve and others have peroxide as an ingredient. I was introduced to it while in the screen printing business to remove scorch marks from white tee shirts that went through the dryer for too long, or at too high a temp. Hope it works for you.
Expanding on what Bob McGee said, if cleaning doesn't work you might be able to remove the stained material and graft some new material into the bare spot. The trick would be matching the color/texture close enough so it wouldn't be obvious to a casual observer.
Several years ago I scored some of the original white ceiling material from David Flanagan (FOT remodel shop) and have used it on several small projects in our coach, including covering the interior ceiling hole left from removing a old crank-up satellite dish. It made a almost invisible patch. However, it was just a small 2" diameter hole in the bathroom ceiling - not located in as visible a position as your damaged area.
The link below is to a place that sells what is supposedly Ozite material. You can order samples from them to see how the color would match up to your ceiling. In case you are interested in going that route...

We bought a Bissell Pet Pro carpet cleaner for the coach about a year ago. It does wonders for the wool carpet and has a hose/nozzle/brush to reach the headliner or sofa/chair. With a little pre-treatment, it does an excellent job around the AC outlets where the ceiling carpet gets a little black. Lists for about $200 but we bought a refurbished like new model for just over $100 delivered. Easy to use. Amazon.com - BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Full Size Upright Carpet... Larry,
The Folex worked great. You can control the spray better than the foam type cleaners. When you spray it on the stain you will see the stain disappear before your eyes. It doesn't hurt the color of the material or the adhesive. With the Folex it says you don't have to rinse it. I just had a bucket with hot water (as hot as you can handle it) and a sponge and rinsed it anyway. Let dry and your done. I keep it handy in the laundry also for stains on our clothing.

The peroxide did not make a dent in the varnish stains, I just ordered a jug of Folex from Amazon (our local ACE did not stock it).I'll check back with any results. ^.^d
Lowe's stocks Folex, they must have 24 bottles of it in our local one, if you are near a Lowe's you could give them a call, if they don't have it they will get it and there is no shipping if picked up at the store.
P.O. let my ceiling go and there was black at ac vents.. I mixed up a recepie I found from a pro talker on iTunes.. Got the black off around where ac's had been replaced then had to do the entire ceiling.. rented a rug dr and me and a boy I hired spent 4 hrs doing the ceiling and it looks good but shoulder muscles got to big for me. I will try a bottle of folex if I ever do that again.. Someone said MOT quoted 200.00.. I wouldn't do it for 200. Ceiling looks good but it should after near crippling 2 men.Why is it people on utube love to hear themselves jabber about nothing.
It's pretty pervasive on TV and some forums. :D

I used denatured alcohol on the Ozite to get the paint overspray off the ceiling, when we removed the tv box. Have also used it to clean around the AC vents and kool O matic. It doesn't seem to bother the Ozite.
Tried it; NADA. It must be the wood finish that's caused the stain is heavy duty! I get the Folex on Fri. and give it a go. ^.^d
Mike, be sure to report back. inquiring minds want to know :))
Will do; we had one of the strongest monsoons last night, ever! No water in the coach, so I know we're sealed on the roof! ^.^d
Mike,
I used Goo-Gone on some paint over spray on my ceiling by the tv, then cleaned it with the Folex. I didn't spray the Goo-Gone directly on the ceiling. I sprayed it on a rag and rubbed the paint clean.

Thanks, John. Now that I'm looking at the ceiling so much, I've noticed some dis-coloring where Brett changed-out the AC units. This 'project' has sore back & neck written all over it!
Yup, very few replacement A/C ceiling units are exact footprint matches for the OE ones on coaches with non-ducted air.
Probably the best solution I have seen to address this is to remove the ceiling unit and install a thin sheet of fiberglass cut to go just outside the OE units line. Paint the fg to either closely match or nice contrasting color.
A walnut flange wide enough to cover the spot would be awesome. If/when I have to replace my OEM units this is what I would do.
Yes, but one would need to be careful as to thickness of the "spacer".
John,
After seeing your post yesterday I went to Lowes and bought a bottle of Folex. Used it on the ceiling at the a/c vents and on some old water stains on the carpet around the shower. I was amazed how easily the stains disappeared. It took a couple of applications on the old water stains but they faded away and the carpet looks good again. I just sprayed it on, worked it in with my fingers, and then wiped with a terry cloth bath towel. Works better than any other product I've ever used!
Thanks,
Jerry
After reading John & Carmen Morales post I went and purchased some Folex carpet stain remover. We have a black stain in the locker over the entrance door, Nothing would remove it. Joyce went into the coach and tried it. I was out side when I heard "Well, I'll Be D....d"! Stuff actually works. Stain just disappeared with no rinsing. Nice to find something that works.
Keith
I can't post pics now, but after a Folex application it's working, SORTA. Is getting lighter, but seems to be spreading the stain outwards!
Mike,
Don't give up on it. In your case you may have blot and rinse the spot. I would use a bucket of very hot water and a sponge. Spray the Folex and let it work. Don't be afraid to spray it good. Then go over it with the rung out sponge to rinse off the residue you have. It will work.
John M.
I also use the Folex with my laundry and treat any stains on our clothing. Works great!
John M.
I'm on it tomorrow, I'll post a pic (if I can use the post feature!) ^.^d
