Title: Electrical hookup for tow vehicle
Post by: 18360 on January 12, 2020, 05:18:19 pm
So we just bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
It has a tow bar but the electric a 7 prong hookup.
My coach has the old 6 prong.
How difficult is that to change.

If you don't want to use an adapter, it is pretty easy to change out.  The plug you buy will come with instructions, plus you have the Foretravel wiring diagrams.  I changed mine from the old original to the seven pin and used one of the extra wires that Foretravel provides to run a power wire through the seven pin to the toad for a vacuum pump that helps the toad brake.

Rick I'm not sure of your model but our 2015 Cherokee has electric power steering.  If yours has that you will need to get a Chrysler dealer to install the fuse and switch if they don't already have it
The Jeep forum has information about what is needed and with right paper work it is covered by Chrysler
Not trying to hi jack post just giving heads up if needed
I changed out our plug without any problem

Easy way to make, an easy to remember, and useful tool.

I use a similar tester as it often allows me to find if the problem encountered is in the RV or what I am pulling.

Also know that mfgs or the previous owner, should have followed this diagram, they often do not.  Always check with volt meter on your first hookup. I've witnessed many a first outing ruined or held up by miss wired plugs.
