We have a 2002 U320 with the Magnum Opus 3000 electronic toilet and vacuum system. Lately the toilet has been acting up some electronically and we are worried that it might fail soon. Parts are not available for this obsolete toilet. I have noticed that some members have replaced their Magnum Opus with a manual foot pedal model. However, I cannot find any mention of the specific model of Domestic Toilet that is used for a replacement. My own research (and limited knowledge) seems to indicate that a Domestic Model 5048 ( standard height, foot pedal, rear discharge) would fit the bill. Does anyone have any additional information about which model to use, installation information, problems, etc,? We would appreciate any advice, information and any other ideas. Thanks.
I went with this one:

I am totally content with Dometic 320. See two before pictures and two after pictures below with links to the products.
Changed out toilet, Sealand 510 for Dometic 320 (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=35284.0)
Given this is a VacuFlush system, be sure the toilet is compatible with the VacuFlush vacuum generator.
These toilets were used because the toilet is not directly over the black tank, so some pumping is involved. FT opted (at the time) for VacuFlush with a vacuum generator. More recent RV manufacturers have eliminated the vacuum generator and gone with a macerator toilet. VacuFlush pulls, macerator pushes, much both are means to get toilet "effluent" to the black tank when it's not a straight drop.
Good point, the Aria I mentioned is a gravity drop down only.
Yes, the Sealand Magnum Opus Turbo Turd 3000 is a horse of a different color...........just ask Carol. 8)

It certainly is.
Unlike Carol and Jeff, we really liked our TurboTurd. As we liked to say, that thing would flush a small child (not that we ever tried). It does have one advantage over the macerator models used today - it needs/uses a lot less water than those do.
I installed the Dometic ADA pedal model ( I believe the 320 ) and have been a happy camper since! You will need a metal ring that goes over the plastic floor flange you have now and a new flange bolt kit, all available at your local hardware store or big box, to make sure your bolt pattern will match up with the new commode. A stainless steel supply line with a quarter turn ball cock valve coming from the PEX and attaching to the fitting on your new commode and you will be good to go, no pun intended. lol The ADA model is 16.5 inches high for those of us with long legs who don't like the feel of sitting on the floor, if you get my drift!
Thanks for the comments! I looked at the Dometic Web Site and found that the 320 model is gravity flush which will not work in our installation. We really liked the Magnum Opus but we are afraid that the electronic circuit board is giving up the ghost. That the circuit board is next to impossible to replace we are looking for a manual toilet to replace it before it fails. We are going to be in San Diego in a February and will consult with a marine sanitation company.
Is it VacuFlush compatible?
Michelle the dometic 320 sets directly over the black tank in Juicesqueezers coach, I used the same unit in our coach and we have been very pleased with it

Jeff has already ruled out any replacement that is gravity powered (Drop & Plop). What he needs from us is a alternative that is NOT the TT-3000 and at the same time IS compatible with the VacuFlush system. So use your heads (ha, ha) and let him know if you are aware of any other model commodes that will work in his situation. Surely some company makes a direct replacement?
As usual, when I know nothing about something (which is most of the time) I went A-Googling. Got slightly smarter...
Diagram below shows a typical VacuFlush system (for a boat). I didn't really understand how they worked...but now I sorta do.
All Jeff needs is different model commode that will work with his existing vacuum generator. That doesn't seem like a big challenge. Link below to a marine supply outfit that has a lot of VacuFlush info. Other sections of their website list several models that should work in a RV.

Armed with my newly acquired information, I can now reply (with a tiny bit of confidence) to Jeff's original question in his first post.
I would concur with his findings and say "Yes, the Dometic Model 5048 should work".

Thanks Chuck, I appreciate the input. I am still doing considerable research trying to make a good decision and then find someone to do the installation. We will be in San Diego for a month starting in February and will consult with marine sanitation companies to get their ideas. I prefer to go through a company like that instead of mail order because of not knowing all the parts needed, best way to install, etc. The toilet is too critical to our being able to live in the RV to have something go wrong like the wrong part. It looks like we need the toilet, the proper base and the proper fittings. Thanks again.... still doing research.
Just to bring everyone up to date, I have been doing considerable research on this subject and have come up with the following answers thanks to Shelby at MOT and Dometic Corp. The direct replacement is the 4748 which is an electronic toilet costing in the $1,600 range. The manual flush models are the 5048 and 5148, both are the in the $750 range. The keys to the choices are that they are a vacuum flush model that has a rear, above floor discharge and a footprint that is compatible with the space in our bathroom. I am continuing to do research and will let everyone know if I find out any additional info. Thanks.
Jeff,
We really appreciate it when a member returns to a thread and tells us the "outcome". So often a thread is left hanging without a helpful answer, and we are only left with questions. Please do let us know what you decide, ultimate source of parts, helpful vendors, etc.
If anyone is interested here is a Dometic Vacuum Toilet brochure.
But this topic is jspunches' question specifically on a coach where the toilet is NOT directly over the black tank and thus has a VacuFlush unit
That is correct, We have a 2002 U320 where the black tank is not under the toilet and there has to be a vacuum system to transfer the toilet flush to the black tank. Gravity drop is not possible!!!
