Not going with MCD but was wondering those that have this brand or another similar brand... On the windshield did you go with day and night or just night shades and why and if you would do differnet.. Wondering what you would do differently?
Maybe electric on the windshield? does it matter? ^.^d
Thanks
Our coach came with MCD day night. Would not like just the night shade as we use the day shade to keep the inside cool in summer and for day privacy. Also came with the snap on outside shade and use them both. Only drawback is needing the wedges like Roger has to seal up at night. Don't know if a 2 piece would not require the wedge.
We had an electric day night windshield installed last summer and love it. We use the day shade to help keep the heat down and semi privacy during the day and let the night shade down when we're gone for an extended time during the day and at night. A push of the button is all it takes. David Flannigan made wedges for ours when he installed the shade. We like it
Chuck, we have a two piece and it needs a wedge which we have not made. It's also just a night shade, as we have the outside window coverings.
Keith, do you have a wedge on both sides and do you have the dimensions for the wedges?
John M
Ours, thanks to John and Linda, is a split night shade with wedges and center cover. Each side is powered independently. We also have a sun screen on the windshield. Works fine. I do use the Rozens. I think Flanigan's group did that among other stuff. :))
John the wedge on the passenger side is straight and can be seen in the 3rd pic. I wish it was angled like the drivers side I can get the dimensions tomorrow.
Keith
The MCD shade for the windshield is only available as electric. We did day/night. Wonderful. We have day night manuals on all of the other windows. if you have window sills in the bedroom I would do electric on the night shade in the BR but not the day shade. You get a little better control of the stop point.
We have MCD manual Day/Nights on 4 windows (LR and galley). We both think enough of them that we plan to replace all the pleated shades with them, eventually. Cathy brought this topic up the first night we parked, after buying the coach....Yup, the ladies like em too.
In the defense of pleated D/N shades, when they're strung properly, and kept clean, they're actually pretty nice. Problem is, at the typical age of our coaches, one or more strings have failed and have been "fixed" incorrectly.
We use both and it has been one of our best upgrades. They were ordered and installed at Foretravel. Dave had the order done with seams that allow the front shade over the hump in the dash. That eliminated the need for wedges. The only downside is the road grime that settles on the dash because we like to run with the windows open. You can see it in the picture because we haven't done the spring cleaning yet.
Hi David
Our coach came with day & night shades that are electric. They are used all the time. We don't have wedges but the shade is very close to the pillar. Wouldn't change a thing. we are in a 03 U320
Thanks everyone for the replies.. Helps. Think Day and night shades on the windshield and electric is what everyone enjoys... Think I will go that route..
Glad I can always count on Honest opinions when needed ^.^d
Flap/No Flap.
My opinion from experience. Order the full width front shades with NO flap. The flap does not roll up. 6" of flap just hangs down 6" in your view. The awning will come down up against the passengers side pillar, up against the hump and about 4-5 inches from the drivers side pillar at the bottom. Make a set of wedges (ours are covered with vinyl to match), one for each side. That will put the bottom of the awning as far forward toward the windshield as it can and it will clear the defrost vent in the middle of the dash.
If you have an AquaHot that uses the front fan blower and the defrost vent, you can add a switch to make that blower optional, much quieter, much more uniform heat in the living room. With no wedges the vents are between the shades and the windshield. Turn the blower on for a quick windshield defrost.

In actual practice we almost never use the wedges. The small gap on the driver's side has little impact on privacy. We might use the one on that side if there is a big light over there but not often. When we want them they are nice to have and take up little room to store.
Pictures show night shade almost all the way down. The dimensions for your wedges may vary. Make some cardboard ones first to check fit. Leave some allowance for covering material. I used 3/8" plywood.the fit well enough that no fasteners are needed. The driver's side wedge can just stay there even when driving.
That's my experience too I intended on building the wedges but found I didn't need them. Also, unlike most I use a night-only shade.

PO put in MCD shades. Windshield is electric. All other are manual. All are Black only. Motion windows are tinted so during the day shades are pretty much not needed. But if I was going to put in new shades they would be the day night ones.
Ok Technical question for those with slides (with side windows in the slide)... What did they use for those? they are only about 1.5" deep So what did they install? I am getting my order together (MCD ..they have better material than the rest)..
Everything is good but the slide windows... Just not enough room for the roller I dont think..
Ideas? Talking of the window on the sides that are 17"x 24" (approx)
The roller on the MCD won't work as is. On my forward facing slide window MOT remade the frame to allow clearance to install the MCF
Probably just make the box deeper? Extending the face out for the clearance?
that is Doable I think
I made new deeper frames (about 3/4") with a flange on the inside edge to cover the edges of the hole. I added a piece at the top that lines up with the side window valences to cove the rollers. I added a vinyl mask around the glass on the inside to hide the gap between the frame and the shade when the windows were down. It came from the local vinyl wrap guy, free of charge. My shade roll off the rollers towards the inside of the coach.
I just used a window film that looks like frosted ice.
Just got our order delivered for the day/night shades from Shade Pro. These are slow roll and they work nicely! Ordered these through Amazon and got the original price that they had listed on the web for weeks before they went up at $179 each. Free shipping but did pay tax, since we are hear in Nevada. I also ordered 16 feet of blue LED's and installed them behind the valances while I had them down. Ordered for the 2 bedroom and the large living room windows. Turned out really nice! Turn around time was less than 2 weeks from time of call till delivery. Actually, closer to 10 days.
1st photo: long track that the slow roll clips into. The others show various stages of install with the blue LED's on in the bedroom.
Ok.. I have to admit... I wasnt going to use MCD but... they had the nicer fabric.. should be getting mine next week at the latest.. I didnt do the day shades as we never used the day part .. only the night time shades.. I have tinted windows and have the clear UV 3m stuff on there also..
Juice.. they look great ^.^d Congrats... cant wait to get mine here so I can work some more lol.
Thanks David; gotta keep busy with this staying in the rig issues, but these needed to get done along with other projects, just don't want to run out of you know, the denario's!
Looks great!
I used these LED's for the blue lights behind the valances!

Started installing the shades last night. All the trim needs removed to get to these things..but they look really nice. I will post some pics of before and after when I am finished
Again MCD has the most colors and types of material.. Worth the extra for the decorative side. ^.^d
anyone that has installed MCD run into this problem? As it rolls up it moves to one side .. frayed the edge a little.. :'(
That probably means that the shade is not mounted squarely to the roller. I would talk to MCD. They are very customer oriented.
David my MCD shades roll up square. The issue I'm having with them lately is either they don't roll all the way up or they're sluggish about it. I know there's an adjustment for it and I did it on one shade with some success just haven't gone in and done the rest of them yet. Yeah you have to remove the valances obviously they'll install them. If you need it it's a good time to recover them which I did including new foam. There's a billion staples holding that stuff in there so it's kind of a big job, takes a long time. But they look really good and recovered and I'm happy I did it. Couldn't believe how much Dust and dirt was in the old stuff. Also took the time to take the old halogen bulbs out and replace them with LED strips. I used the color changing RBGW with a Bluetooth controller. I can change the color the intensity and the white light color balance on my phone.
been waiting over a month for new wallpaper to arrive. when it arrives I'm going to have to take the valances down again to do the wallpaper. The wallpaper I got is pretty high end. Not the exact same company that for travel use but the same type of wallpaper. It's a vinyl backed.
David if you just want to get it working, roll it down all the way and shove a small piece of cardboard or any other thin object up against the roller on the low side and trial and error will find the right thickness to make it go up straight.
I am going to send them an email in the morning.. the kicker is.. My first one lol.. cant catch a break.. If it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any luck haaa
As luck would have it.. Closed until further notice.. Covid Stay at home order per MCD.. Awesome!! I will install the rest and see how they go and in the mean time look to see what the problem is with this one. ^.^d
Yep any nonessential places here in Texas are closed.. the nonessentials it my plant are working from home,,,,, unfortunately I'm essential :'(
